Idk about anyone else but I am just now playing a mage (4th play through) simply b/c I could not stand the hideous robes we are offered. Some may find that to be a silly reason but I can't help it, I do not like to play a game unless I like the way my character looks. Anyways I tried all the Chasind, Tevinter, Enchanter, Apprentice, Chantry, & every other robe I could get my hands on.
My final conclusion is all robes(I've found) are ugly to boot on Males aside from Avernus' robe. Females only the First Enchanter robes look decent, not even cool just decent.
This entire post is for PC people looking for a reliable mod to give them a robe that looks good. I believe the mod is entitle Mage Robe & Staff here in the projects section & Mage Gear on nexus. This mod works flawlessly with many other popular mods & both patches. Also I think it is better to DL here b/c he may of only poster the version with the duplicate fix here in the projects tab.
I know it isn't much but this is a fairly balanced not completely OP mod unlike most. Also just wanted to make people aware who might of been putting off playing through a mage due to the lacking variety of non-ugly...non-feathery hooker robes! lol
So hope this helps a few people out!!!

I think my female PC looks cute in what someone referred to as 'feathery hooker robes.' *shrug*

I know what you mean, is it just me or do the robes add a good 10 pounds on them?, it's ridiculous how ugly they are. That's one reason why I always choose AW. Even massive armour looks less frumpy and doesn't make them look like they instantaneously gained a lot of weight.

lol, I know what you mean!! I don't understand why we only got 1 classic mage robe that is just that a robe! So many are ugly with mix matching colors & it just looks terrible. I suggested that robe since it is similar to Avernus' robe & for those who didn't want to play AW. I plan to play an AW some day but this play through is strictly mage! Blood mage I think & maybe a shape shifter.

I think the robes as a whole are 'okay'. Most of them look better on males than they do on females, to be honest. I'd be fine with the current set of robes if we had more versions/permutations and other varieties of robes. I'd definitely would love to see the robes on the woman on the launcher for the PC game.

Storywise, we could maybe chalk it up to how bland Ferelden fashion is; more focus on function and practicality than adding beauty. Maybe when we get to Orlais? :D

And don't forget the shoes! Ugh, those ugly mud covered Ferelden shoes. I could go on about shoes all day. Posted Image

I know, right!?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind some more pieces that show up...with robes on, boots and gloves don't show. And I still want hoods. Like the one Morrigan's seen wearing in some art stuff. >_>

Haha, am I alone, then, in absolutely loving the robes? They look so much cooler than just a big colorful dress; like they could actually function as some kind of armor.

(Though I am curious... How do those absurdly low-cut robes show up on men?)

The robes themselves I didn't mind. It's the freakishly large hands that come with them that I can't get over (on the Circle Mage robes, at least; for some reason, this doesn't jump out at me with the Tevinter robes). Visible gloves might have helped hide this a bit (as armored characters don't bother me in this regard).

Be thankful you aren't in light armor. Ugh.. miniskirts. WTF.

My male characters have to look so heterosexually challenged in leathers. -_-

I think the the Elf female robes are rather pretty. I dunno, I just dig the cross-my-hips look of the belts and the medallions hanging from them and I like how they're not all...loose and drapey, like you'd think a robe would be. They have shape. But the Human female robes are horrid, for the most part. They'd be much better if they didn't have those boob-circles. The Male robes are blah. Just...looks like something they patched together themselves with little skill out of expensive fabric (re: the elaborate patterns but little else attractive there). Its no wonder all of the mage ladies like the Templars: they're much better dressed. (Alistair was so right! /shot)

There is a mod I found on Dragon Age Nexus with some alternate robes which are nice stat-wise but are reskins of clothing worn by nobles and I find that running around dressed like Isolde isn't very mage-y (and makes me wish to cry helplessly in a French accent), so I run around in the robes you get from Warden's Peak most of the time (so boob circles on my Elf, yeah). I keep hoping someone might design robes that look like something a mage would wear within the context of this game (ex no capes and wizard hats, ha).

Actually this is one of the reasons I don't like to play a mage too much, and when I do I get Arcane Warrior as soon as I can so I can wear some armor, lol

Well considering the fact that I only put females in medium armor , it doesnt really matter to me :P . I put all my males in big fancy armor... aside from zevran but thats because i never use him

Im just getting really tired of Varathorns armor on my first char. And im hoping there would be something to take its placePosted Image

Besides the utter lack of robe models a big problem is the fact that they're so stiff and plastic looking. I'm seriously reminded of any number of my old Star Wars action figures when I look at my mage. Cloth simulation would have been nice but I don't know if the game engine limited that because I don't know anything about technical stuff.

Not just you and it is more like 10 kilos :P the human females walk like old style western gun fighters with a hemorrhoid issue in the game... possibly brought on by one to many nug cheese burgers.

Robes got barely any attention compared to the amounts of armour sets availble ( which is even biased toward massive armour users )

Tacky recolours of already terrible designs FTL

Yeah, new robes and light armour would be grand. But female characters walk/run when in combat like John Wayne with haemorrhoids. No amount of great robes/armour will fix that.

Well, that makes sense. After all, both of the Rogue companions are, how did you put it, "hetereosexually challenged"? Posted Image
