Besides the utter lack of robe models a big problem is the fact that they're so stiff and plastic looking. I'm seriously reminded of any number of my old Star Wars action figures when I look at my mage.

This.
They don't look like cloth. I don't need animations, but need cloth-like textures. Baldur's Gate robes looked more cloth than DA robes :(

I see DA mages don't wear general fantasy archetype robes and that's okay, but at least make them out of cloth, not plastic.

you're not there is a mod that uses the typical ugly medium armor that alistair wears when you first meet him at ostagr(if you play on pc) but it is really OP!! it's black with gold trim, looks really nice.

More models for the robes, non-robed cloth gear (for both sexes), more models for light, medium, heavy and massive armors.

As for all this talk about 'adding weight' to the character, considering some of them look like some sort of size zero lady already I think in some cases a bit of extra meat on the body is fine. The current light leather armor model for females imo turns them into skin and bone that have hardly eaten anything last few days. Just a personal opinion there.

So basically a majority of the community is most likely in agreement that we NEED more robe models for all sexes & races. Along with more models & variations of light & medium armor. Honestly I can not tell the difference in most light armor...to me it is green, brown, purple with only 2 base models & like 4 inlay variations to chose form. Medium armor has some ugly designs! lol. I do not care for at all what Alistair is wearing when you first meet him. Chainmail or Splintmail medium I think?

Anyways thanks for all the feedback guys I hope if enough people keep this thread going perhaps the outcry with be heard my Bioware or Modders.

I mean I personally kind of like the way the apprentice & mage? I think robes look just no the color scheme, nothing matches. faded purple, with brighter purple, ugly blue, & yellow-goldish belt in the middle. I also do not like that if you do not like your ugly apprentice robe the next one up in rank is the same ugly design just with newer uglier colors. lol.

+1 on wishing there were better-looking mage robes as well as light and medium armors. Also the stat bonuses you get on them are so weak in comparison to heavy warrior stuff, particularly if you just rely on drops rather than shelling out lots of gold. I'm so jealous as a PC mage giving my tanks all the pretty armor and buff equipment. And I kept my PC elf rogue in Dalish armor for most of the game, finally switching to Drakeskin leather armor (not Wade's which is useful but ugly), and the stat bonuses on those are virtually non-existent.

Besides the robes, what the hell is up with those hats? Do mages have genetalia on their heads in Ferelden because they seem to wear giant condoms as hats. Except for the massive armour versions, even the helmets look terrible.

Don't forget Heavy and Massive. They just have different skins on them, Massive at least has 2 real models, Heavy is pretty much just 1 model with a few different skins.

As for robes (and to some extent non-robe cloth items), there is a kind of mod for that to some extent because 'The Winter Forge' mod allows for people to craft the various other 'non-mage' robes that there is (like the ones Anora, Isolde and others wear). I've got a rogue at the moment whom once I got him out of Lothering I am going to equip him with one of the human noble style robes which is similar to that which Eamon wears (not really a robe, more like shirt and trousers) and mod it up with some skills. But yeah for the other gear, we need more of.

Oh and more cloth hats. Maybe a coif or decent full head covering cowl. Leather helms with more face covering.

There was a great topic a while ago where someone posted some real cool armor designs. Be nice to see a mod create something like the ones he drew.

Edit: @DJ nah there is some good 'heavy' helms too, I like the Executioner one, total head covering and curves to the head rather than big and ugly hehe

I actually like the Tevinter robes on female mages, especially the Reaper's Vestements (the PC who got those is very much an "Executive Mage"). Well, I like them except for the clogs. Clogs don't seem terribly practical for running around a mudhole like Ferelden.

The paisley, velour horrors that men from the Circle get make me want to harf (especially when coupled with the pointy hats) and I feel like the female versions of those robes make them look like nuns (never mind the stupid boob circles).

I think light and medium armor looks horrible on men, but I don't mind it on women. I actually adore the medium Dwarven armor (for females) and usually end the game still wearing that. It does seem like the heavy and massive armor got the bulk of attention, though.

I'm fine with the robes, what i absolutely hate are mages hats!!!! They look ridiculous except the hodd-like ones, wich are useless stat-wise after mid game.

But more than anything: light armor for males are absolutely horrible and THAT prevented me to ever roll a rogue PC...

So, in short, we just want more and better of everything? ;)

A short wish list of mage related gear?

-more variety (not just re-coloring of the same set of robes)

-better hats (I'm thinking maybe add another kind of headgear, like circlets, headbands, or maybe even masks)

-perhaps show gloves and boots (if possible; maybe also make the mage specific footwear and gloves look different rather than just recolored light armor stuff?)

-personally I wouldn't mind seeing some Dalish Elf specific designs...I'd have said Dwarf specific too but they don't really do the robes thing, being non-magi and all :P I'm just saying I'd assume that since the Dalish travel they'd have different textures and designs. We already see some differences between Elf magi robes and Human robes; I'd like to see more (and for both Dwarf and Dalish I'd like to see different armor designs, considering they're different cultures)

I could go on and on and list more stuff I'd like to see, but I guess it just boils down to trade-offs. It's obvious that it was never their focus to push the envelope graphically or artistically, and I think that paid off with the better dialogue and more involving story and decision branches. The hope is that now that we've all seen how successful and popular Dragon Age is, and now that BioWare has gotten a game in the series out, the next expansion or the sequel will benefit with a (relative to DAO) higher focus on some artistic pieces such as robes, cloth, some animation here or there, and headgear. Hopefully!

Boy was that a mistake... besides I don't want to use my laptop for gaming.. or it will die quicker... like the last one Posted Image

Be thankful you aren't in light armor. Ugh.. miniskirts. WTF.

My male characters have to look so heterosexually challenged in leathers. -_-

THIS.

I  spent so much time my first playthrough trying to find Zevran some damn pants!  I was so sad to find it was just not to be.

I can't play a male rogue because I can't stand the sight of my PC in the leather miniskirt. If it looked like a kilt, I could do it. But it doesn't, it's very feminine looking, no two ways about it. That's perhaps my biggest gripe about the game. hehe
