"The romance options will not be released until sometime next year. Gaider said he’d like to release them February 14th, but that just seemed like a desire rather than a set date. They said the reason for this is they don’t want to say someone is romanceable, only to find out they don’t have time to program it in and then disappoint people later on."

I personally wish they would NOT release this information and let us discover it on our own in game play. It kind of feels like finding out what our Xmas presents are before we unwrap them. Tho I am pretty sure I am a tiny majority here. And sadly having almost any presence on BSN will spoil it for me even if I try to avoid reading anything about it. ;-(

"The Qunari you can play as are Tal-Vashoth. This means you can make your female Qunari a warrior if you so choose (traditionally those women who follow the Qun do not typically fight)"

This is cool, I hope we can play as a female Qunari Saarebas.

"Morrigan is not a party member, not romanceable, but she is also not just a cameo. She will play an active role. Gaider said a lot of our questions after DAO should be answered with regards to Morrigan."

I wonder if she will be the narrator similar to the whole Varric/Cassandra thing in DA2. Along the way explaining and answering things about DAO and DA2 loose threads. I bet she ends up being adversarial but not necessarily someone to face in battle. Or I could see her coming in more towards the end and perhaps trying to get you to support her in a battle with Flemeth or perhaps causing you to join in a battle with Flemeth to destroy her and her son depending on what side you support.

"We should find out what is going on with Hawke and his/her disappearance"

I was hoping so bad that they would not do this. I personally had hoped they would just let Hawke and the Warden just walk off into the sunset. No matter what they do with Hawke they are going to anger/upset a lot of people. Since they did not bother to give us an real epilogue in DA2 it fell to us to determine in our "head canon" what became of Hawke. Now they are going to come back and say, well even though we left you hanging for years about Hawke because we couldn't be bothered to do a proper ending to DA2 we are going to now clean this up years later and BTW if it doesn't fit into your own imagined ending "too bad".

Regardless looks like a fantastic game! Love the Qunari option. Love having mounts. Love the clean bright scenery and battles. Autumn 2014 seems so far away!

I really hope our Qunari character was born a Tal'Vashoth so it is possible for him/her to be interested in the Qun and support its members. I like both the race and the believe and it would be a shame if we were excluded from supporting the Qun by playing Qunari.

I actually said that it was time to start answering questions about Morrigan, instead of posing new ones. I did not say "a lot of your questions" would be answered, just to be specific.

Well, in that case, I hope we at least get an answer to the major questions.

I guess that would depend on what you consider "major."

This actually excites me.  Not because I need a Hawke cameo, but because I was afraid the disappearances were just a gimmick to get the player's inconvenient old PCs out of the way.  This sounds like it might have some story significance.  This is what I prefer the disappearances mean.  I would rather they just provide some epilogue and then never revisit Hawke or the Warden again than make all my PCs fall into some portal to Carceri because they are inconvenient.  Unless headcanon conflicts with future story, there is no reason to strip it from fans just because you can.  If you don't intend to use my old PCs for anything else, please just leave them be.

[*]I would agree with this. I want to know the reason they went *poof*. I'd like there to be a compelling story reason other than 'we wanted a new protag'.
[*]
[*]I'm fine with my headcanon having to be revised due to new information. After all.....all we know is that they diod X for a little bit then went *poof*

Awesome.

That confirms that they aren't hand-waiving lore just for the sake of playable Qunari. It makes much more sense for the Qunari PC to be a Tal-Vashoth.

Everyone already guessed this was going to happen once the qunari were annouced. This is no surprise.

It will be a surprise for some people. In a couple of threads discussing whether or not the the player character would be a Tal Vashoth, there were people arguing that the player character should be a follower of the Qun. They were doing this even after it was pointed out that it wouldn't make sense.

Impratical to just let the players figure all romance options through game play.
Romances in DAI are harder to start and maintain .
You might waste time trying to romance a character that doesn't have romance options .

1. so Qunari PC is a Tal-Vashoth....well the obvious has been stated

2. No mounted combat sort of sucks but thats no deal breaker

3. So Hawke's Houdini act will be explained. What about the Warden?

4. Inquisitor wont strt out as an Inquisitor. Is it too much to hope for Origin stories?

1) thanks, OP. For the info.

2) re: Morrigan. Mr. Gaider commissioned a piece of art which implied that it is possible for Morrigan to die in DAI. It's on his Tumblr.

3) according to the Wiki, some Qunari were enslaved by Tevinter. It is certainly possible that a Qunari Mage Inquisitor was born into slavery in Tevinter, thereby escaping the fate of Qunari mages.

I'm with you! I personally don't even really want to know who all of the companions are, so very soon I will be abandoning the BSN.  I already know of some and I have no wish to know of the others.  I like the meeting and surprise of discovering they are your companion.

  • The writing team looked at a lot of history when building Thedas, and drew from a lot of cultures and societies when creating their worlds. For the Qunari they first looked at Muslim society during the Middle Ages with regards to their advancements in technology and medicine among other things, and then branched out from there into other cultures. The art team also has a lot to do with how a group of people will look, and what real world cultural influences will be brought into their society.

This must be controlled and curtailed, lest we end up with another barefoot uncanny valley elf look, or a sexualized Flemeth look, or an exaggerated girly female animation set, or...

The only way I can see mounted combat working is if there was a new ability tree added for horses. It would be a separate ability tree, a bit like how the exploration trees and possibly persuade trees work.

Each class would be able to use a basic attack (how great would bow and arrows be on horse back, let alone doing a Gandalf by charging into battle with a magic staff?) The actual skill tree could have maybe a half a dozen skills, with 3 horse attacks and maybe a few more horse skills to increase stats such as the animal's strength, vitality and so on.

Horse attacks could be: power kick, charge and stomp (an AoE attack). Perhaps there could also be a braying skill, to scare way lesser powered foes.

So there you have 3-5 basic mounted attack animations (sword and shield, two-handed, archery, daggers and magic staff) and three animations for horse attacks which would be shared across all classes. When accessing the ability wheel while on horseback, only these skills would show up.

Obviously that adds up to more than eight animations - a mounted sword and shield warrior is going to look different when attacking enemies, depending on their position - are they on the left side of the horse, nearest the shield; or the right side, nearest the sword? But surely this is all within the realms of possibility given the timeline.

OK, you've got a big open world so you need horses. But if you have horses, then in today's market having horses means you also need mounted combat. It's a pain in the backside for developers, but Bioware are going to look pretty out of touch if they don't include it and people will be asking "Why include horses if we can't use them in combat?"

Skyrim had it added in a patch, RDR had it in 2010, Assassin's Creed had it in 2007. The advantage Bioware has is that the DA combat system could make it feel unique, enjoyable and not feel really awkward for once!

So it makes sense for the Inquisitor to just get off their mount anytime theres something they need to fight> What if they get ambushed? It's 100% cutting corners, it's a little feature that isn't a huge deal but would take some extra effort to make the game more logical.
/le facepalm lolololololololololoololololololol

It, unfortunately, is not a little feature.  Doing meaningful mounted combat would place large strains on the combat team and animators that already have a lot on their plate.

At this point, one can argue that any feature that isn't done to the level of depth that you would like is "cutting corners" but the reality is it was never on the table.

Mounts have basically been explored for pretty much every BioWare game, and historically they have been gigantic time sinks that end up resulting in something that isn't really all that interesting.  THere was actually a lot of internal resistance to mounts (especially from people that have been down the path before throughout BioWare's legacy) because the initial assumption was "It will be a nontrivial amount of work for potentially minimal benefit."

With Milestone 8 (which ended around June), there was a team set up that pretty much proof of concepted mounts on a very introductory level.  They actually achieved more than they were expecting to deliver (which is good), but without delving too deep into systems that lead to a combinatorial explosion (which, from a developer point of view, is also good).

These decisions are not made in a vacuum though.  Mounted combat is seen as very high risk and I think there are better things that the teams that would be affected could be working on instead.

3 letters DLC =)

if anything a toruy would be intresting.

I don't want mounted combat let alone be willing to pay extra for it. I rarely use a horse in Skyrim I would rather explore on foot. In Skyrim I like to role play a hunter, living off the land making armour out of the animals I have hunted.

I would rather Bioware spent their time on money polishing other areas of the game than trying to implement mounted combat.
