in korea a lot of gaming teams are treated like sports teams (training regime, specific diets, training schedules, etc) they have all the aspects of sports minus the physical exertion, however there is a lot mental exertion in games. idk i'd consider them sports, cus they are competitive events that entertain me.

The Clique is an idea; that idea is not so easily destroyed.

As someone who doesn't think chess and poker should be considered sports, I'd say no to gaming too. Sure, the mental and strategic aspects of all three should never be taken for granted, but I feel that a sport is something defined by physical prowess and dexterity.

This.

And honestly, are we still trying to convince ourselves that we're getting exercise, when in reality, we're sitting on our butts? It's NOT a sport, and Kinect doesn't make it so.

Agreed.

Competition alone does not make something a sport.

Truth.

It feels like we're just trying to make ourselves feel better about not doing physical activity by saying we're "playing sports" really.

Moar truth.

Nope. 'Sport' is a very specific definition, and gaming isn't exactly close to it.

Gaming is just a very well-rounded activity. It's a hobby more than anything.

Golf, Baseball, & Poker are often televised on ESPN. By this logic, gamers are in fact, athletes & gaming *IS* a sport!

I must have missed the part where it was debatable that baseball was a sport.

Golf and baseball require the proper dexterity to produce a good hit. Golf is the most leisurely sport there is, though.

It depends on the gaming. If the game is run in formal competitions and requires a lot of practice and study to get better at (i.e. a high skill cap), then I have no problems with that particular game being called a sport. e.g. stuff like this
