I'm really worried at the prospect of Hawke returning

So, we've been told multiple times that if Hawke and the Warden return, they'll be NPCs. And this has me worried. More for my Hawkes than my Wardens. The level of RP is *the* strength of DA2 and something I took full advantage of. I'm worried that the personalities I spent so much time crafting will be tossed aside and I'll have a Hawke that looks and sounds like him/her, but isn't. This isn't about violating some imaginary future, but choices I actually made. I RP-ed a pious, diplomatic mage wh married Sebastian. And I'd like that to be recognized because the last game recognized it. My biggest fear is she ends up like Shep in ME3, only with even less choice.

What personalities? You mean Mr.Pacifist, Mr.Terrible-joker or Mr.SPARTA?
There are only three of them XD Much easier to translate than the variety of choices of DA:O

To be honest though, what's the problem? Neither WArden or Hawke will return in DA:I, mentioned at most. It'd take too mcuh risk and resources to import them, pick new VA for Warden etc etc etc

Pretty much this.

But even IF they appear, I bet it will be a really short cameo.

Hawke had three personalities to follow, which means they'll easily be able to make him atleast a little like your old Hawke.

As for the silent emotionless Warden everyone seems to love so much... I don't know. How could they make him/her anything like what you imagined he/she would act like? Not to mention, all the different voice actors they would need. I doubt the Warden will ever return, especially since mine is dead.

Hawke on the other hand could easily become a real NPC in DAI, since he was his own person, and atleast has some guidelines to follow with the Diplomatic/Sarcastic/Aggressive hawkes.

Seriously. I'm more worried about the "blank slate protagonist" from DA:O coming in since the picture I painted in my mind will be splashed over by whatever solid graphics, voice work, personality, appearance, etc. the devs impose on her. The three rigid personalities of Hawke are much easier to duplicate.

To be honest though, what's the problem? Neither WArden or Hawke will return in DA:I, mentioned at most. It'd take too mcuh risk and resources to import them, pick new VA for Warden etc etc etc

Yup.

As much as I love my warden and Hawke. I rather they do not appear. Ever. But that doesn't mean I don't want closure.

I demand to know what happened to both my warden and Hawke! *shakes fist at bioware *

I don't really care what they do with Hawke. Not just because I felt 0 attachment to the three Hawke personalities I had the choice of playing, but even if you attempted to RP him/her they could still fire off a witty remark in their small amount of screentime and it'd still be your sarcastic Hawke.

The Warden is a far bigger issue.

Did you have a problem with the banter and auto-dialogue that was based on Hawke's dominant personality type? In Legacy and Mark of the Assassin in particular Hawke had quite a bit of dialogue independent of player interaction.

I can't see Hawke appearing in anything more than a short cameo, and even then I don't see what possible merit it would have. More probable would be Varric and Cassandra occasionally discussing Hawke, hopefulyl with some variation depending on player choices.

Yeah this. Hawke's pretty on rails.

Only if you want to consider mysteriously vanishing (along with the Warden) at the end of DA2 as "happiness".

Well, if you decided to be completely unimaginative and just pick the same option every time, then yes, this is true. Since it was quite possible to combine options to react to different situations and people in different ways, it was actually possible to create an interesting character. Perhaps not a perfect one, but DAO was far from perfect too.

To be fair he/she vanished with his/her lover.

My Warden just goes off alone for...some reason. (Unless the warden vanished with Morrigan which mine didn't).

True, you could interpret it positively for Hawke if you wanted to at least.
The Warden I'm not so sure about... definitely no happy ending for the ones with Leliana as it was made clear she's looking for the Warden.

I don't want to see npc hawke either. i'd personally like to hear about his/her rumoured offscreen actions with their significant other via companions/npc's.

I wonder if the warden and Hawke will only appear in one of Cassandras books? I mean, the book in DA;2 had the portraits of the companions. Seeing we get to set the appearance of both the warden and Hawke in the Keep, perhaps that will be the whole 'appearence'? Both can be mentioned and discussed, but no real screentime?

I don't see the problem with Hawke, contrary to the Warden, he has a personality "System"... They only need to make 3 different types of dialogue and it would be enough.

The Warden, on the other side, will be a bigger problem because he lacks any kind of personality. I won't be surprised if we don't see him/her in the next game.

Yep which I did.

Though it begs the question when does the Warden vanish since in act 3 Teagan remarks that the warden is coming back to Fereldan if Alistair is king.

I'm more worried they'll end up like Revan.

I rather they just be dead than come back completely bonkers.

It doesn't matter how often you pick different personalities for Hawke.  The game will always read him as either "Mr.Pacifist, Mr.Terrible-joker or Mr.SPARTA"

Where you're worried, I'm not. I have faith that Bioware will keep my Hawke the same as he was! Perhaps it's blind faith, but I'm not afraid of it. Even if they don't, Bioware hasn't really ever disappointed me aside from a single instance or so.

This, Hawke is pretty much set as an NPC because of that system

And I actually don't mind seeing both of them in the game, plus part of me still thinks the Keep might play a part in this even though we don"t everything about it

I thought it was already stated by BW that neither would be coming back. Did I dream that?
