What kind of reductio absurdum, fallacious non-logic is this?

Is that a spell from Harry Potter? What does it do?

It turns any argument into a joke and causes spontaneous facepalms.

My problem with action mode is that its presence introduces the possibility of lowering the standard. With a more profit focused mindset, if action mode is more successful than other modes, I'm frightened that such a mode, where the core, the soul of a world like Mass Effect is effectively absent, might become the norm and replace what makes a game truly memorable and even ground-breaking, in the case of ME. I have no problem with it as an addition to the regular mode or modes.

I don't know if it'll go that far. BioWare knows how to sell there games, and I don't think they'll stop making them this way anytime soon. Don't worry just yet.

I showed ME3 to a friend who had never played Mass Effect before. I let him play as my character for a while, and he couldn't really get into it. I figured it might be because he didn't see the game from the beginning, so I had him create his own character and I suggested action mode, mainly because I wanted to see what it was like. He enjoyed the game a little more after that.

It serves it purpose, at the very least.

if they enjoy the gameplay of ME 3, then they enjoy the gameplay. Instead of whining about such people you should be thankful they exist

For what?

considering they doubtless provide a very considerable chunk of the income for BioWare in the first place.

Oh. Is that supposed to be meaningful to anyone outside of BioWare?

The sad reality is that the things RPG gamers take for granted as being common or simple features are barriers to entry to many others. And Bioware is not the company anymore that will be satisfied with a niche audience. They'll remove the barriers to entry somehow. As long as it doesn't compromise everyone else's experience, I'm OK with that (that said, I think it did in fact compromise some sections of ME3 already).

Bioware is fine and the type of games they make are always going to be a smaller fanbase, compared to an "open-world" do-the-****-you-want type game, like Rockstar is famous for.

It might surprise you to learn that high-quality games require money. Shocking, I know. And BioWare isn't going to get the necessary investment if their games aren't making a return.

I don't know it'll go that far either, and I'm not greatly worried, truly. I think there's a real trend toward smaller scale and more linear games in the so-called AAA game market, and coupled with the very existence of action mode in a game like ME3, I can't help but feel that little bit of worry for the future.

Oddly enough, they were doing just fine when they were catering to niche audiences. Or at least making games that niche audiences enjoyed.

Since the cost of making games has increased exponentially in the last decade, this is really just irrelavent.

You want a high quality game with lots of RPG elements, that takes massive amounts of money. No amount of BSN logic is going to get around that.

Developing a game has not increased at all.

I'd just like to point out that Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age: Origins were made in this decade. You know, the games the more nichey people around here enjoy the most.
