This is it, my last time ever playing ME1. Gamestop, I got a used game to sell you. Genesis may stink, but ME1 is worse.

I have the difficulty down to casual, Immunity at max, including shock trooper boosts and I just cannot end this stupid fight with soveriegn. I can hide out and sit behind the back pillar all day, but I can't take him down without him killing me. There has to be a "i just don't give a damn anymore" button somehwere. Where?

Well, it turns out I was not actually dropping the difficulty. Unlike in ME2 & 3 where you set the difficulty and then hit the back button, in ME1 you have to select confirm and exit.

Also, got to see a very different ending since my renegade score was higher than my paragon and I sacrificed the Council. A human only Council, eh? Exactly how do you call it a Council if you are not taking council with anyone?

If you ever decide to go through that fight on insanity lift is your very best friend ever. If you have Kaiden and Liara with you, you can pretty much keep him floating around in the air as a target.

As The Grey Ranger said, biotic teammate helps a lot (send that springy monkey into a slow easy to shoot float) and just make sure whoever is second has good up to date firepower.

Tried 20 times and couldn't defeat Saron.

Is there a difficulty level changer in the PC version?

Otherwise is there a cheat?

I have Mass Effect 2 warming in the oven and I really need to finish off this Saron so I can use the imported saved game character.

My character is level 35 which is probably why I couldn't defeat Saron but why would the game let you go into this part with a grossly underpowered character and party in the first place?.

Struggling bigtime.
Went for 30 minutes and his health stayed the same.

I really don't want to retread old ground with this game.

I need to finish it now.

Do I really need to import my save game or is it pointless?

Otherwise I will start Mass Effect 2 now.

Saron can't be beaten.

There is, somewhere in the options menu

At which part of the fight are you?
Usually you just have to shoot him (several times)
Any team member with lift or singularity can incapacitate him long enough to land several shots.
Also sabotage/dampener should work on him, so he can't disable your weapons and powers.

is there a cheat?

I don't think so, but a quick google search revealed that there are trainers.

Do I really need to import my save game or is it pointless?

That depends on what you call pointless.
Without importing you can't choose the virmire survivor, or if the DA+council survived
There are also several Dialogue choices not available (afaik)

The best equipment (armor, weapons, mods, omni tools, bio amps) do not drop until you reach level 50. Shepard and squadmates also gain health and shields as you gain levels as well.

I find 35 to be about the break-even point for most classes; this is where you start to become more powerful than the enemies you face.  So by not being at a higher level (I assume you were skipping most or all of the secondary quests) you are not quite as powerful as you could be, and are lacking in a few skills. For example, level 47 would have gotten you 12 more points, enough to max another power.

Now, that is not to say that you cannot beat Saren at this point. Who are your squadmates? Liara and Kaidan with Lift make this fight easier since Lift will render him helpless.

What class are you? As an Adept, Vanguard, or Sentinel, you may have access to Lift which greatly helps. Soldiers and Infiltrators can spam Immunity and survive pretty much anything. Vanguard and Adepts have barrier. Sentinel has barrier as well, but I find it is not as good since you cannot invest in an armor skill to increase damage protection or shield boost.

Using Medical Exoskeleton/Medical Interface/First Aid armor mods will constatly regenerate your health. So if you find yourself low on health, duck behind that one big pillar and wait as it regens.

All classes have Marksman training with Pistols, so you can activate that to increase your weapon DPS (damage per second).

You can also try to use Overload to take down his shields quicker, and try to use Damping and Sabotage to prevent him from using gunfire and powers.

^That.

I think when you are in the 40's is when you are relatively the most powerful. You start getting the first versions of most of the high level equipment like the good amps and armor, even if the spectre X guns are still not available. And you have enough points to have Master for all the best abilities, plus your combat specialization.

I never die but my weapons aren't strong enough to kill Saron.
Looks like I have to reload an earlier save and do it all again.

I really struggle getting around in this game due to my poor memory and direction skills lol.
KOTOR is a great game but I got lost so many times,I gave up on it.

I have a map of every side planet, so I don't have to think about where stuff is.

Seems like I can't progress through the rest of the missions because the Normandy is locked out.

Well, go talk to Anderson so you can get back onto the Normandy, but instead of going to Ilos, start landing on planets and doing the side quests you find there. You may not be able to complete them all because some of them require you to return to the Citadel, but that doesn't matter as far as XP goes. Killing things will net you XP. Also, collect minerals, Matriarch writings, Salarian medals, etc. All of that will give you more XP.

Yes ,I thought I was locked out but I can still do the other missions.
Phew.

Levelling up to where I was with Saron with better weapons and plenty of missions to go.

I think I did my ME1 insanity run with an adept, and used Grunt and Garrus as my team.

I don't recall having any problems with the last few missions, but the earliest stuff was a little rough.

Dampening is really effective on RoboSaren. Halts his laser beam that causes weapon overheating.

Actually if you buy a Medical Interface 4 off of Dr. michel immediately after you become a Spectre, you usually get level 3 weapons and higher from there on out... it seems like weapons are unlocked by how high level your equipment is...

You unlock Master Spectre Guns with the "Rich" achievement (idk what that would be on ps3). They are the best you can get. period.

I am pretty sure equipment level is determined by what level Shepard is. You start getting level X equipment drops when Shepard is levels 50-60. You can always buy a few levels above from stores.

For PS3, the "Rich" achievement is probably a "Rich" Trophy. You get it once you have 1,000,000 credits. This will unlock Spectre VII weapons for all existing and current characters, obtainable from the Normandy and CSEC Requisitions officers.

Spectre X weapons unlock once you reach level 50.

It is.  You get X level equipment right when you hit 50.  You are also right that some stores will sell you a few items right above the level you have unlocked, but they don't drop.  Dr Michel's inventory is different from every other store in that it is static.  Buying any high level equipment from her does not affect what else is dropped in crates, by enemies, or generated at other stores.

What I am talking about specifically is the period when Colossus, Battlemaster / Rage, and Armax Predator L/M/H armors start showing up, as well as Nexus and Savant tools / amps, and the Medical Exoskeleton.  These all start at Level VII and are not available until you get into the 40's.  Most of the stores will generate an inventory that is level appropriate the first time you visit them in a "game day," which is the basis of the reload trick.  C-Sec always has Spectre weapons if you have the rich acheivement, as does the Normandy quartermaster.  Other stores it varies based on what manufacturers they carry.

Level VII of any of the above armors and amps is a quantum leap from any of the lower level equipment.  Going to levels VIII, IX, or X for most of those are only incremental improvements.

And as Red already said, the Spectre VII guns are indeed unlocked by the Rich acheivement, trophy, whatever you want to call it, but that has no bearing on what equipment drops in the stores or out of crates.

I can confirm Dr.Michael's inventory as static from my last play through. I thought it was a bug in my last game to be honest. I thought I remembered her offering more higher lvl medical add-ons, but alas tis not the case.

@OMGaidebob I suspect you noticed a correlation, where your Shep's lvl was at a teetering point around the point you spoke with the good doctor.

I would recommend hoarding money and doing side quests to try what i said. I bought a MI4 from her as a fresh character and got level 3 and above weapons in my normandy locker and so on... i do that all the time with fresh characters and it has yet to not work... I have many playthroughs as well. It wasnt a one time thing... It couldnt hurt to try my idea. At the worst, you got MI4 early to tank your shepard.

No offense, but the game has been out since 2007, we don't need to try it.

Store inventory (except for Michel's) and item drops depend on Shepard's level. Crates with Hard Decryption, high level enemies, and stores can sell items up to 2 ranks higher than your current corresponding level. The wiki has a table for this.

Minor nitpick.  You can pick up these items below level 40, but I agree it isn't typical but they are available.  I picked up my Kassa License from C-Sec at level 37 (you can pick up all the top licenses at this level or possibly even lower [although 37 is the lowest I've achieved] but I specifically didn't as I wanted to max my chances on Kassa armor w/Alliance Officer) & picked up my Colossus Light Armor VIII at level 39 from C-Sec with only a few store reloads (less than 5 but I also did a bunch on Alliance, more like 20, just prior).  If you have the SerrIce Council license, it's pretty easy to get Omni-tool/Biotic amp from Alliance Requisition officer.  In general, though, yes, level 40+ is when you start getting the top gear.  I just wanted to point out that I've done it successfully at below 40, albeit not much at level 39.  :)

I haven't tried doing a targeted license approach where I only get the Kassa license & whatever prerequisite licenses are necessary (if any) as I've always gotten Colossus light armor pretty reliably (as early as level 39, never later than level 44) which is the most difficult item to acquire in my experience.  The rest are easier or just use the Pinnacle Station DLC convoy.

thanks & best regards,
Pedal2Metal
