With some matter of sadness, I am here to announced an Alpha--or, to be more precise, a pre-alpha--version of Shagret. It's not finished. Not by a long shot. However, I think it's necessary to release it in this state. Why? Life has this curious manner of changing and, well, it doesn't always change how you would like it to. Sometimes people leave and, well, certain hobbies aren't as much fun as they used to be. I find myself in a reluctant position I never wanted to be in. I recognize, though, that my work ought to see some life outside of my harddrive. It seems fitting.

This is an alpha. Many things are quite draft, rusty or however else you would like to describe something not polished. There's no tutorial either. So, yeah, sorry about that.

Here's what I will say: you can travel north to the forest, after that unfortunate run in with the Nagas, and you might meet some people. Tell me if you meet Mulaska, Liiona or do you even get Gresan the thief to join your team? What about the lizardfolk feast? The troll dance? Did you solve the Faerie Dragon's riddles? Did you see Grimwing?

I will potentially return to this in some time. But I'm moving, both literally and figurateively, on with my life. I would like to come back and finish this--you can't even access the Fungal Hall!, and I don't think the crafting pouch is in the game world--but it's unlikely. I mean, I'll dabble and play around with it, but this is what I have. I hope you like it.

Would you grant permission to anyone to finish it up to a 1.0 release state from this pre-alpha? Use the areas/blueprints/scripts? etc.

I'm not sure if anyone could. Largely what needs to be done(in no particular order), is polishing, balance and proofreading/editing. The final stage, if you play around with it in the toolset, you will realize is a *gigantic* undertaking. I don't feel comfortable at this point saying yes. Also, the only areas which need to be made are those for Shagret's Lair(the "final" dungeon). I guess if someone *really* wanted to I could hear them out, but I don't know why anyone would.

That said, if people have questions about scripts--like the crafting system, the natural monsters--or play what I have(the forest of Frurar and some adventures in the swamp) I would like to hear them. I would like to come back to this, but it's going to be a few months before that's even possible...and I'm not sure I will. This is still my baby and I do feel strongly about it. There are really good moments in there.

Don't worry, that creative spark will come back in time. Just go out and let yourself rest, drink it all in, feel what you need to feel. Given some time, you'll be older and wiser, and all that you've experienced will find it's expression in your art.

There have been a lot of times in the past year that I got a bit burned out with my project. Mostly it was because I always had the false impression in my head that I need to meet a deadline... which is not correct. No one is pushing you, and you need to do this because you like it. Sirchet once told me, if the toolset becomes not fun anymore, leave it. After a while, it will become fun again :).

There's really not much point in doing something as a hobby when you don't enjoy it in fact that would just be plain stupid and masochistic so leave it for a while it really doesn't matter as nobody's got a gun at your head and is shouting "Where's Shagret !"

Too many people rush endings and mess up the thing that they had created with love and care at the start so if you take a break for however long you want then good for you and when you feel like it return to Shagret. Because then you'll be in a better frame of mind to complete your "baby" in the style that it was always supposed to be done in. In fact it will be better because you'll have had more time to think about it and will be completely refreshed.

I wouldn't advise getting someone else to finish it as you will never be happy with what they do and will regret it. I don't even know why you released it in a mess just to get it off your hard drive all that will happen now is people will tell you it's awesome but full of bugs and you'll feel harassed to finish it when you're obviously not ready to do so.

I look forward to seeing the finished product whenever it's ready and a happy person that wealds chaos announcing it's proper release in the future.

I released it mostly because it felt like something I had to do. More than likely I'll never come back to it and, yep, I wouldn't want anyone to finish it. This is a way that people can play around with it, if they want, and I can be assured it's not going to be lost. I mean, it almost was lost(backup and flash drive failed at the same time). I don't say it was the perfect decision--it's certainly not the most glamorous--but it's a decision I felt was the best one given my circumstances.

Sounds like you're having a bit of a hard time at the moment but remember something really bad that happened to you once a long time ago and how you felt afterwards.. I'll bet what happened soon became less important and enjoying life started again, it always does.

Actually, I'm having a great time. The horrible thing that happened--fiance leaving me--happened months and months ago. She actually was more supportive of my NWN2 project than anyone else(there's actually some items she designed in the game, haha). In either case, this is part of tying up some loose ends. I mean, I would like to come back to work on this...but being realistic, I'm working on a book, moving and won't have a gaming grade comp until the next year. Also, it's a new town and I need/want to get back into the saddle. I appreciate the concern--I love the NWN2 peeps here so much!--but I'm actually doing very well. :)
