Howdy all - been a while, but back for some good ol' BG funzies. Few gameplay questions surrounding leveling:

PC: Human, Fighter, level 8 (161000 - pretty sure exp capped), still in BG1 (Ch. 5)...

1) This is a fairly common run for me, in that I solo him for a while (needing at least 2x in Bow specialization for that amazing BG1 Missile bonus), and then turn him into a tank (longsword + shield) once I have a full party. This time around, as I was leveling him, I forgot about my future intent and put most of my points into the Longbow instead of the Longsword (4B/2S when I'd want it to be 2B/4S). Activated CLUA to drop my exp and re-level him, but soon realized that it doesn't change my level, and as far as I'm aware, there's not CLUA code to change weapon specialization - so I'm looking for another option or work-around. ...maybe its possible to remove my current main, insert a begining copy, and bump that guys exp up, leveling him as I go? Any ideas appreciated.

2) I always run this guy with the intention of dual-classing him to a cleric, but I never do...I think I will this time, though. So, possibly including some BG2 play, when would the best time for this be? I've heard rumors of a level 11 being a good choice (post hitpoint break, possible weapon specialization?, etc.). Again, any ideas appreciated.

Are you playing vanilla BG1 or tutu/BGT? If the latter you can use Shadowkeeper (http://www.mud-maste...m/shadowkeeper/) to change your specialization directly. If vanilla I can't remember if its possible to copy the game into MP save folder, then open as a MP game and add in the character you want. Then set them as the sole character, save the game and copy it back into single player folder.

For levelling the most common choices would be 9 (maximises constitution bonus) and 13 (extra 0.5 APR). I have seen arguments for 12 for the extra proficiency point, but can't really see that as a good deal myself. The other thing you want to consider is how high a level do you eventually want to get to - consult XP charts to think about that. If you're going above fighter 12 then that's going to start reducing the final level you can achieve as a cleric, but that may be a good swap. Also think about how long you want to play as just a cleric. Getting to level 10 wouldn't take long, but getting to, say, level 14 would be rather more work for you before you get fighter abilities back.

1) Use Shadowkeeper - it's far easier that way. Just redistribute your prof points there and that's it.
2) There are many opinions on that. I prefer 7 (1/2 additional attack) or 9 (last max HP gained). 13 is far too high for me as I always play a full party and it will take an eternity to gain my inactive abilities back after dualing.

edit: ugh, Grond0-ed as usual...:D
For vanilla instead of Shadowkeeper you could use Gatekeeper.

Thanks for the response guys, especially concerning the dual-class suggestions - duly noted.

...unfortunately, I kinda forgot, but I'm actually running BGEE (maybe my third play-through - almost always use vanilla, but figured I'd give EE another try. So, I guess apologies are in order as this is technically the wrong forum). So, there's no BG2 file for Shadowkeeper to sync up with, and Gatekeeper doesn't really work either - even ignoring the warnings of file corruption, the weapon spec screen is oldschool (large swords, etc.). Ended up trying the multiplayer method, and it actually seemed to work - just deleted my curernt guy, imported his starter, and got to work:
- Used 2 skill books, so CLUA'ed them back in, with two ID scrolls, pre-level.
- CLUA'ed my exp back up, and level-up seemed smooth...
- day/hour counter reset; presumably doesn't matter.
- reputation reset; was 20, now 11 - presumably I can just go to a temple and CLUA the needed gold.
- special abilities(!!!); I'm def. still in chapter 5 (so says my journal), but I don't have any of my PC's special abilities from the dream sequence's...any ideas, considering the editors don't work?

...that's all I can think of that could be problematic. Made a backup save, so if it all goes to hell, I won't be screwed. Thanks again for the advice...
