Am I the only one who doesn't understand Bioware's new "romance's are annoying and suckish" stance? There are a few interviews where Gaider says something to effect of "We don't want to put that much effort into something that is ultimately optional."

This is an RPG isn't the majority of the game "optional"? And being a Bioware RPG isn't it about choice? I'm not saying romances are absolutely needed, or that it makes or breaks the game.... just seems like an odd choice considering they made sex into one of the bigger decisions in the game (DR and OGB).

Again, this is not so much about the merit, or lack there of, of romances. Just the oddity of Bioware's decisions.

I don't think they hate romances, but I can understand that they feel like what was initially a experimental gift to players has become something so requested that they are hounded by its existence.

I think its more they dislike the annoying, rabid, really creepy fans that they attract, and the fact its the only thing anyone (from both sides of the argument) talk about. Not the romances themselves.

edit: and to be fair to Bioware, they have always held the same stance about romances being minor content.

Yes. You are the only one in the entire known universe who doesnt understand. There is absolutely no one else out there who doesn't understand Bioware's stance on romances

There isn't a "THIS! WHY CAN'T YOU SEE THIS?!!!!" big enough in the universe for this response.

I beg your pardon, I'm nothing of the sort...

Because romances end up only being a few minor dialogue changes while hogging all attention.

I Understand that, but it's kind of like Harrison Ford trying to distance himself from Han Solo.... its part (of arguably varying importance) of your success like races or the original dialogue method (yes I'm an old school guy, but that's irrealevant)

Romances are not what made Bioware successful.

They don't hate it-- they see it for what it is and what it should be - minor content. What seems to annoy Gaider is how we, the fans, focus on romance so much.

Its not the romance feature itself, its the handful of creepy fanatic fans that haunt them in their dreams.

Nor is their dialogue list, in my opinion.

Or race options I would argue. Not unless you could do that in kotor and it's something I've yet to unlock.

Their entire bread and butter always seemed like the characters and how they interacted with eachother and you, while going through a acceptable story to make them travel together.

I don't agree that it was what made bioware unique.

Hardly.

Bioware became what it was because, for a long time, they made good RPGs with very good mainstream appeal. Not because of the romances. Because few people actually do the romances.

I'm not sure that this thread is going to be the most productive thing any of us do today. Just shooting from the hip, here.

The thing they said is that romances aren't the main focus of the game. If you were to believe most of the internet, DA games are dating simulators.

If anything, Bioware probably enjoyed the free publicity fox news gave them

David is like a shark. If he goes too long without being bitter or snarky, he drowns.

That said, I believe he likes romances.

not another.
I can already see name calling from the haters, those who hate romances.
A mod needs to lock this thread.
