Yeah, that sums up a great deal of why the romance fanatics are considered creepy stalkers.

Thanks - I can't unsee that! I'm so glad that nobody was around when I opened the page, you might want to consider that some people may be reading this at WORK and leave out the creepy, disturbing sex doll pics.

I take it you're the advocate for the waifu fan fiction patrol, so I wouldn't be suprised if you end up getting offended by people calling a spade a spade and pointing out that they're weird and creepy.

This is the kind of discussion that you want cultivated here? No wonder Priestly nuked the romance sub forums.

What, you think that discussing the potential moral virtues of genocide is somehow objectively better? Honestly, sex is pretty damned light content compared to a lot else of what gets thrown around.

The absolute worst thing I've seen spawned from the romance fandom is this thing.

Also a myth, by the way; its association with anything ME-related was false.

Oh look, the Mad Hatter has arrived, pass the tea please.

The day I have a discussion which goes anywhere with polarised, fanatically obtuse posters is the day hell freezes over. But, that's your prerogative with the whole Mage vs Templar thing though. I consider it asinine as every thread devolves into the same topic and everything goes round in circles.

Yes it's untrue, it's not the only bad thing I've seen, one of the worst things I saw was a poster who actually put thought into whether the Asari derived pleasure from penetration. Who was that again?

Please try to legitimise your weird obsessive desire for a waifu. I need more ammunition as I've been busy lately.

Oh no! Setting details with fan thought put into them! The horror!

It's fiction. It has things I enjoy in it, regardless of whether or not they spawn insane self-righteous video game prudery.

Wow, I'm not sure if you're deranged or deluded. I'm sure Priestly shutdown the character forums out of sheer spite, right, right? Nothing to do with the levels of crazy that anyone who entered the forum to see what the game was like encountered. Nothing to do with some of what was being posted was more acceptable on some adult fan fiction site.

Yeah, such a prude, when you find 10+ page threads of what Tali's sweat tastes like or Asari sex questions, what other deviancy have you got cooking up in that brain of yours for DA3? Something truly amazing I hope.

I have nothing in particular against normal people who like the romance option, but your kind of posts tend to attract negative attention, because they are a great example of every negative point that people can bring against everyone else who does like the romances.

The whole Miranda civil war. Maybe he was looking for an excuse, but that really says more about him.

I think using the word "deviancy" unironically makes my point for me better than I ever could.

What, pray tell, is "normal?"

I can. It's thematically unjustified to punish the player for not finding Jack the best romance option. Or alternatively, for being female.

This is a story about good and evil. About ideals. The consequences need to be based on those ideals. Not on which character the player wants to romance.

But you understand that there are emotions that get tied in through certain acts or decisions and these can be expressed through scenes in the game, like a life or death situation - not everything is persuaded through logic.

I can sympathize with that, Allan. The hostility generated by romance threads frustrates me also, even though I'm guilty of engaging in it.

There was no hostility from us Jack fans.

Ironically.

What that BioWare had realised that you fanatics were reflecting badly on them? I'm sure Priestly simply got up on the wrong side of bed and though "I'm going to lock it down for no reason, other than I'm in a mood." Completely plausable, maybe he's a biogot? D: shocking! Or maybe, just maybe, he got tired of all the weirdness and flame wars and locked it for the reasons he gave, I'm going to put that crazy idea out there.

Coming from a pedophile, I'll take that at face value.

Oh yes here it comes "we're not weird and obsessive, just misunderstood" like anyone else doesn't raise an eyebrow when they see things from the previous pages. I'm sure that kind behaviour is perfectly above board and doesn't call into question what type of person the game is associated with.

You can find extremes in any part of the forum.  I can get picky too, if needed.

Might as well lock each section of ME3 forum.  MP thread especially.  The spoiler section had more than it's fair share of "weirdness" or fanatics, as you like to state.

Also, as much as I dislike someone, to pull those type of personal shots at someone, just makes you look even worse.

No joke, why would you even risk that on BSN? I know I stopped reading this in public after a few days.

Abrassive and hostile posts certainly, I agree. Discussion various sex topics with a particular character in a game. Please, go for it, I'd love to see you find the equivalent.

*snip*

That was confirmed to have nothing to do with any Bioware character, IIRC.

This does raise the question of how and why it found its way onto the BSN in the first place though, so I'm sure there's still some creepy story surrounding it.

Reasonably sure the former is more problematic than the latter, because it was the former that got the romance forum locked.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Bioware took the "kill it with fire" approach to the entire BSN. The DA:I forums have started out pretty nice, but as every week edges closer to release, the amount of threads about romance, inter-speciel sex and omni-sexual perspectives continue to multiply. I have little doubt that as more characters are released and showcased, this will only increase exponentially. Which will then lead to another Romance sub-forum being created. Which will then result in a thermonuclear option... except for the entire BSN, not just one sub forum.

I miss the old forums.  This never would have happened if they hadn't gotten rid of Neverwinter Wednesdays.

No one is scared of sex. I don't know why you still believe that, but no one is afraid of the thing that keeps our, at least I hope our, species surviving. What no one likes, is to hear about the fantasies that some players have over pixelated characters and the arguments that go back in forth in defense of said pixelated characters. It's unhealthy to have such an attachment to triangles. Does that even sound right? Would you go outside and say that you are in love with triangles and that you would die for triangles, or all of the perverse things that you would do to triangles? Does that even sound sane?

Best thing might be just have to have private groups on the forum, for each romance - if they're willing to go down that road of "detail". I love Jack's character, but I find those discussions and the fanart creepy, but luckily - I rarely witnessed anything related to that in our thread back in the ME2 and ME3 days. So that's why I personally get upset when I hear people stating "fanatics" or "you people" - I'll say, read through our entire thread in the ME2 section and ME3 section.

I guess the romance or sexuality aspects gets pointed out most because of how uncomfortable it can make people and well, these characters are just pixels, to intertwine "Shepard" or the "Warden" with yourself seems to be the problem.

You could say it like that. You could also say the same thing about sex IRL, speaking of unhealthy attachments to barely animate meat, for instance, if you want to reduce that far. The point is that fiction is supposed to engage peoples' emotions and, yes, when that's successful, people may get attached to fictional characters. It's nothing even close to new. Remember when fan outcry actually forced Arthur Conan Doyle to un-kill Sherlock Holmes, even when he really wanted to get out of that series?
