It's shocking, right? Looks like somebody is forcing romance haters to attend romance forum.

If Bioware is so concerned about creepy fans, then why let players bang almost every companion in ME2? It was called dating sim for reason.

That's a very good question.

Just exclude romance content from all future games, or limit players to two options.

Oh, forget the romances! Bioware needs to focus on more important stuff. Like the gameplay and the story.

If they do it properly, there's no reason a well written romance subplot can't enhance both. It just depends on how well they plan it.

It would need to be able to be woven into the plot or else it just sits there as a side dish.  Ala, Zevran, Leliana, and most (if not all) of the Da2 crew.

Why don't we go one step further? and make all games play like skyrim b/c that formula worked especially well (financially speaking).
Sure you can do it.
It still doesn't address an outstanding want had by MANY players.

Speaking of which, it would NOT surprise me if the stats are seriously skewed about romancer interest.
Bet you lots of those people DON"T play online or share their accomplishments or bother with DLC.
I don't. My interests aren't catalogued.
That may change with more online access required (though the Black Emporium DLC is annoying in it's push to make me go online very time I want to start a new session.)

Well, the devs did say that's what they were aiming for in Inquisition. They want to make the romances feel more organic and actually enhance the story as well as the character interactions. So... Fingers crossed? lol

Hopefully they won't have romances affect the story. Regardless of how many people on the BSN demand it.

Romance is a nifty feature, but it should never be the forefront of any game or character interaction. Romance should be a sidenote that can be fully fulfilled and experienced and interacted with, but it should not be where all the characterization goes.

People will always make their poorly-written smut fanfictions and draw their vomit-inducing porn art, Bioware, fans always do. No one will get mad if you don't make a giant focus on romance, because others do that for you.

Romance is an accepted, almost expected, integral part of films, tv-shows and books. I don't see why it cannot be the same thing in certain kinds of games.

It's true. Romance is a staple of 'epic' fiction.

____________

I would be interested to hear where you would draw the line RE: affect the story.
Isabella and the book and the choices we had around that incident.
Was that affecting the story?

I haven't played the Dragon Age games. So I wouldn't know.

If her character arc was significantly different based on whether you romance her, (such as her deciding not to betray you if you're in a romance), yes, that's going too far. Well, assuming the betrayal is significant and not a slap on the wrist.

I don't understand why Bioware even cares about "creepy" fans, let alone why it would want to bite a hand that feeds it.

As an aspiring author, my success is entirely predicated on cultivating fans. Why would I insult people whose only crime is being enthusiastic about my work? It's nonsensical.

That's because it's too obviously intelligent of a statement. People don't like it when things make sense, because it puts a damper on their arguement.

Because no writer enjoys being asked what a character's sweat tastes like my friend.

If they pull a Bastila then I'll be happy. I love romances, but they're not needed to develop characters to a certain degree. I like when certain developments happen with the influence of the story and how it effects the outcome of where the relationships will end up. Would I love another Jack? Sure, but I would rather have one or two quality developed romanceable characters (with not just the players ego in mind).

So ignore the question. You're not obligated to answer or even acknowledge it.

Insulting people just for caring about your work isn't any kind of acceptable. If they were legitimately harassing you, then it would be understandable, but they aren't.

They can't do anyting similar to Bastila, because that was never BioWare's character. Don;t you know that every SW story has a formula?

Death threats aren't harrassment? The more you know, I guess.
