It's hard to go back to the console versions.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the 360 and PS3 versions of the trilogy are bad games, absolutely not as my first Mass Effect experience was on the 360.

The problem is that I've played my most recent runs on the PC, taking advantage of mods to tweak the look of armour as well as the MEHEM.

However I recently bought a Kinect for the Xbox 360. So of course I wanted to try out the voice commands in Mass Effect 3.

However the game just looks that much more...'blurry' for want of a better word. Everything just feels that much more limited.

I admit I still prefer the analogue sticks for movement but the hotkeys of the keyboard compensate for that somewhat.

Am I am the only one who had had trouble going from the console versions, to the PC, to back again?

Probably, since I doubt I will go back myself unless forced to.

Why would you need to be forced to play a great game (series)?

PC players always had a hard time going to the console version. But Console Players can do both. Console Players are the true master race.

I own the trilogy on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. I think I qualify as a console gamer too.

The one nice thing the console has is the tactile feedback from the controller. This really does add to the game. For instance in the opening scene when the Reaper is about to kill the little kid you get both the loud bass sound, but also the vibration from the controller to go along with it.

Unfortunately for console players they don't get the mods, the number of hotkeys (though I was never good with more than 4 at most) and the less than stellar aim you get with a joystick vs a mouse.

Having seen a lot of the character customisation mods I can't blame you. As a console only gamer I wish I had access to all the cool hair styles and clothing/armour mods that PC crowd can unlock ( seriously, why can't my FemShep wear a leather jacket like ShepLoo, I don't want that stinking leather mini skirt ). Then there are mods to do away with crap like planet scanning and increasing galactic readiness, sure beats the tediousness that filler crap that plagues the console versions.

Call me crazy, but I think ME3 looks better and controls better on consoles (360 at least, haven't tried PS3) than PC. On PC it just looks off, for lack of a better word.

Maybe depends on the size of your screen and resolution? I play on a 32 inch TV and it looks pretty nice.

The video options for all. 3 games are pretty bad, so that might have something to do with it.

Even on 1080p and with max textures, it looks muddy up close. I would use Texmod, but that only works whenever it feels like it because it never went past its beta stage.

To me nothing beats a good controller, Playstation's Dual Shock range has always been pretty good and the 360 controller is as close to perfection as you can get ( at least until I sample the DS4 and XBox One's controller ), it is one of the many reasons why I have always favoured Consoles over PC gaming ( I also can't be bothered with with having to upgrade my PC specs evey year or so ).

Having said that I do stick by my original post, I am jealous of all the modding that PC gamers do to games like Skyrim and Mass Effect. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I get every time I come across a cool looking ME2/ME3 face on the net only to find that it's been modded and that I can't replicate it on the PS3. Heck I would even settle for something basic like being able to take default FemSheps hair and put it on a better shaped head with no freckles. Why did it not occur to the ME3 team that we would want more customisation options than what they provided.

Mass Effect modding doesn't really appeal to me, I'm pretty happy just playing it on console. If it were DAO or Elder Scrolls or Fallout it would, but Mass Effect? Ehh maybe for a few hairstyles/casual clothes but that's it.

You can use controllers on PC games. I recently got one hooked up to use on Fallout 3 and it works perfectly =D (it switches to 360 format so it doesn't come out weird or anything)

I do use my wired 360 controller on games that support it but the Mass Effects not supporting it is not an issue. Well maybe in ME2 since Bioware did a horrible job with the PC UI.

The controls are not the only thing though. It's the crispness of the graphics which just look muggy on the consoles, mods to tweak things I don't like and enable me to skip the tedious things such as planet scanning in ME2.

Do I prefer the control scheme on the 360? Yes I probably do. The PC versions though give me an all round better experience though.

Aw the controller isn't supported? That's disappointing. I've been considering migrating to PC at some point, but I'm spoiled by the console controls.

It's a real shame to be honest because other Unreal Engine games allow you to hot-swap between a controller and keyboard and mouse set-up. So it really is something Bioware could have done themselves for two and three.

You can get third party programs to map the controls to a controller but it's not as good as native support.

I prefer playing on consoles, and mods don't interest me much (even the ending mods. I actually prefer the EC&Leviathan ending over them. Glad people can enjoy ME3 again through MEHEM/MEEM/etc, but they simply aren't for me).

BUT the ability to quickly planet scan in ME2 (using the mouse at whatever speed you want instead of the turtle speed [at the max] of the console version) does give me a reason to get them on PC should I ever get a PC [I currently am a Mac user].

So, I'll stick with the console version, despite the pc's perks.

What Mac are you using?

The newer Intel based machines have the ability to dual-boot Windows thanks to BootCamp http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/.

If you have a copy of Windows on an old PC then it might be worth diggiing it out and getting it on your Mac.

Then you'd have the benefits of both Mac and PC, being able to run the Mass Effect series on the latter for example.

You might also consider using Wine. I am currently playing ME2 using Wine in Linux. It works perfectly. ME3 also runs under Wine. I believe that Wine is available for MacOS, but I am not sure if the Mass Effect games will work. It might be worth a look if you don't want to buy a Windows licence.

Mass Effect 2 and 3 are pretty bad as far as PC ports go. No added effects, low-res textures, no gamepad support. On some systems (including mine) there's an inexplicable glitch that oversaturates the game with contrast, resulting in ugly black splotches everywhere, especially dark areas like the Normandy. BioWare was made aware of this glitch early on, but they didn't bother to fix it. AFAIK there's no fan fix for it either.

The best PC version of the trilogy was Mass Effect 1. Oddly enough it was the one of the series that wasn't done by Bioware but by Demiurge Studios. Almost makes me forgive them for Pinnacle Station.

Although it doesn't have gamepad support either.

I've played the game with both ATI and Nvidia cards (HD6450 and Geforce 8600GTS/GT640) and can't say that I've ever encountered the glitch you mention. In fact this is the first time I've even heard of it.
