I often hear (and see) people equipping their kroguard with a heavy shotgun, and very often with the Reeger. I always mention that I never actually use my weapon when playing a kroguard - I give him a Disciple with a shotgun omniblade, but I never fire the thing.

So here's a video showing that. It's a flawless gold game without using a firearm. I don't think this is groundbreaking, but people usually seem surprised and/or curious about it so I thought I'd do a video. And I think it can help non-experts get through gold solos, so I tacked on a tutorial narration thing.

I have played with some fantastic people - top-the-scoreboard-on-platinum kind of players, who nonethless have never done a gold solo. Too hard/tedius without a team. I've told them about this buld/strategy and it got them through it.

So what the heck, here it is for all to see. Yeah, I know kroguard vs Geth is easy. That's kind of the point. Am I being too defensive? Anyway.

Yet Another Kroguard Gold Solo Video

You can bring out as many crutch kits and tutorials as you can fit in the Kodiak, it doesn't make it any less tedious or give it any more of a point.

Yeah, I was reluctant to post this because I figured I'd get a lot of that.

You know, I enjoy occasionally putting on a kroguard and doing an easy gold solo. Hell, I occasionally enjoy putting on an Asari vanguard with extra grenades and going into a bronze. That doesn't make putting on a Volus sentinel and going into a platinum any less fun or have less value.

That said, there are people out there who need some help even with the crutch kits. You are obviously not the target audience, and that's fine, but your opinion shouldn't diminish other peoples' enjoyment.

Noped as soon as I saw it was a 42 minute long video.

I don't care what people do with their toys on their own time. I'm pointing out that you said your friends didn't want to solo because it was too tedious, and you responded by giving them the most tedious solution.

The actual match isn't that long. There's a bit of an intro/powers/loadout thing. It could be faster if I wasn't show-boating (which I note in the video) - I was taking the time to get 50 biotic kills and 5 grabs, etc.

But yeah, it's not a speed-run. Not meant to be.

It all depends on what you call tedious. I personally don't find this tedious. You're kind of in their faces. "Tedious" to me is where you're basically kiting the entire match.

And I actually did a kiting-match when I soloed platinum, and you know what? The first time you solo platinum, or gold, or silver, or bronze or whatever, it is anything but tedious. You keep doing it, it can get that way and then you look for ways to make it interesting.

Seriously, if you think someone who's never soloed a gold match would find this tedious, I think you're way off. Someone who's soloed many golds definitely might and again, you are not my target audience.

Every single melee-focused Krogan build I see has the wrong execution. At this point, everyone should know that you can chain heavy melees indefinitely by pressing and holding the melee button to do a heavy melee, then right before returning to a neutral state, pressing forward and the action button to run, then tap the melee button to execute a running heavy melee. By repeating the process, you can chain one heavy melee into the other with no recovery whatsoever and thus getting faster kills.

This allows you to mantain the melee damage reduction when facing tough armored opponents like Primes without having to worry about stunlock and whatnot. Plus, it looks wicked cool.

Well, usual BSN response aside I do think it's a good tutorial, and even though I'm probably not the intended audience it's still funny watching a krogan smack death to geth for a while. I also learned something because even after 200 waves with him I didn't even realize the kroguard had melee synergy for his rank 5 biotic charge evo. Huh.

I'd never tried a no-shot-fired solo so I did a Gold run with the Kroguard this morning. Had a good time, it's actually quite relaxing to smack things to death and it goes by fast. Thanks for the fun tip.

Does the "vanilla weapons are not affected by weight increasing mods" thing only apply to the PC? Cuz I thought it was shared by all platforms.

My point being, you don't really need that shotgun weight reduction on rank 6 of Battlemaster to get 200% cooldown with a Disciple even if you do use omni-blade. Unless they've fixed that (highly unlikely) or it doesn't work that way on consoles.

It does work on consoles. The only time it goes away on consoles (that I know of), is if someone joins the match in progress or if you have another weapon with ULM on it.

That's exactly how I used to play him in the past. Put a Disciple on him with a melee mod and then just charged and meleed the whole game. I works fine but it takes a while.

That's pretty much what I did for my Golds, except I used an Eviscerator with disruptor ammo...and I fired it a lot. Not so much for the killing but I would try to set up tech bursts so I could strip shields for the next charge/melee.

Tech bursts? You were actually using Carnage?!

Nah, I didn't bother speccing into Carnage. Fire a couple rounds, charge, tech burst. Actually got a couple of kills that way, particularly in large groups.

Isn't that kind of exactly not what I did in that one? (:

Well, yes, except you fired much less than I did. I did a lot of meleeing but I also ran out of ammo almost continually. My second Gold was with a Batarian Vanguard which was much more melee. Charge, punch, charge, punch, the entire game.

To add: I also specced one point in lash so that I could occasionally hate-surf, just to break up the monotony.

Didn't know that, thanks. Tried it out in a pug today. Still took me about two minutes to take out a prime (no melee bonus whatsoever), but it was hilarious.

Random pug: "Hey Cirvante, did you notice that we're all down?"
