I don't recall seeing much sadism by Roche in the game. I may be forgetting something, but I don't recall any particular scene where you see him deriving pleasure from hurting people.

What he does to Dethmold is pretty nasty.

Henselt. Yeah I couldn't remember his name.

He had her squeaking like an unoiled hinge.

Wow. I bet you're a real ladies man with lines like that.

That's a line in the game you fool.

Lick alcohol from the floor? How exactly is that anything but "a d*ck?" That's not sadistic at all.

Lol he tortured a priest to death, even after getting the information he needed.

Replay the game. It's stated several times that Roche enjoys torturing people. And Geralt even told Ves that Roche is a sadist.

But explicitely stating 'Hey, I wanna screw that one!' would seem a bit disturbing even to me.

The worst part is, in my experience, most youth(and I'm stretching the definition of "youth" very far here), at least males, actually behaves like that, or at least talk like that amongst themselves.

You say that as if it's a bad thing.

That's because it is a bad thing.

Why TW never be success as Bioware game?

- TW use slavic theme/culture which isn't really popular among fantasy genre.
- Being independent dev. mean you got a time and freedom but not good for marketing.
- Eastern European dev. always got passed up by peoples, they still new to a gaming industry.
- CDPR debut themselves on PC which actually a smaller market than console these days.

But now, they start to make their name in gaming industry. Cyberpunk catch a lot of attention
and TW3 got a lot of praised in E3.

It would be if the soldiers were simply killing and/or raping the defenseless peasant girl for their enjoyment; and it still would be 100% realistic; but we are never actually told that she is not guilty of her crimes which are, in turn, simply what is to be expected from a desperate and starving population in the middle of a war and were, therefore, caused by the very Nilfgaardian soldiers that will now hang her. But, if she did commit the crimes, doesn't she deserve a punishment?

Of course, the trailer doesn't post this question for us to ponder; it uses Geralt to tells us the soldiers are monsters but, in context, the situation is still very grey.

I disagree. I just edited it in to a previous post, but I'll post it again.

Geralt's words:

"Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling...makes no difference. The
degree is arbitrary, the definitions blurred. If I'm to choose between
one evil and another, I'd rather not choose at all."

That's
pretty black and white. As black and white as a Paragon Shepard,
actually (sounds a lot like "I won't sacrifice the soul of our
species").

The priest did not, in fact, give him the information, he died in the middle of interrogation. Geralt had to find a way into the courtyard himself.

Something worth looking at:

That's unequivically black-and-white. Nothing grey about that. I thought it was interesting.

Yeah, this is a good point. There's no telling if she actually is innocent. Still, the beating and torment the soldiers are inflicting on her is just cruel. For ****s sake, if she's guilty just hang her and be done with it.

So it sounds like I'm hearing about three different explanations. Some people saying the Wticher is just as popular. (Because it's as good or better, obviously.) Some people saying popularity doesn't matter. (So it is unpopular in comparison, then? And no, it really isn't that simple.) Some people saying unpopular in comparison because it's just too smart for 'mainstream' audiences.

It's not as popular, not in the states, and likely never will be. Which is fine. The games goes in places a lot of people don't like, for better or worse. And they have only made two games so as a developer they are still learning.

I don't recall the scene or the afterscene, so I can't judge if that was cruelty or deriving pleasure from cruelty.

Wasnt it just the balls? I remember him saying "cutting of your balls and slitting your throat will have to do." Granted we didnt exactly see it in any great detail...

You can kill dethmold yourself? I didn't know that. I thought it was Roche's choice alone.

Henselt was the one who f**ked Ves, not Dethmold.

I made sure he died for that.

And fed it to him. I kinda wish they would have had the option to b*tch slap Roche for doing that.

For me, the things TW2 Did that DAII didnt, they already did right in DA:O..More open, atmospheric, free-roaming areas, good plot, decent plot divergence/decisions( morrigan baby, dwarf king, golem anvil thingy etc) DAII just didnt follow them through with great enough consequences- but thats where DA:I is supposed to come in.

The witcher is good, but really its about bringing back whst Dragon Age had all along.

In Roche's defense, Dethmold had destroyed the only two things Roche cherished. He deserved his fate in about a thousand different ways.

Hmm. What it sounds like to me is that the Witcher doesn't really have these' revolutionary' features after all.

Its pointless to argue...
