 Hey y'all

This is my first time playing BG1EE and I'm playing as a sorcerer. I understand that upon leveling up you can choose new spells. My character has just leveled from 1 to 2 and I cannot find the option to select new spells. My char is wearing the Ring of Wizardry so the number of spells I can cast per day has gone from 6 to 8. When looking through my book I have no spells on the lvl 2 page.

Do you guys have any idea what the problem is? Have I misunderstood something?

Thanks

Edit* I have an unmodded enhanced edition

You don't get a new spell choice at level 2 for a sorc, you just get an extra cast per day.

Here is the sorc spell/level table, as you can see sorcs aren't really that good at low levels.

...no magic user is particularly good at low levels...but are usually a bit OP later - kinda makes up for it.

As far as the Sorc, yeah - you shouldnt have any level 2 spells available to you until you level up from lvl 3 to lvl4 - and even then, you can only cast 1 spell up to 3 times a day.

Not sure where you got your 6/8 numbers from. At level one, you should have 2 lvl1 spells available, able to cast either up to 3/day (overall, not each - possibly where you're mistakenly getting '6' from). At level two, you should gain the ability to cast 4 lvl 1 spells as apposed to 3/day (possibly where you're mistakenly getting '8' from). As far as the Ring of Wizardry, I'm honestly not sure if it works on the Sorc, as the spell systems between the mage and sorc are completely different.

Edit: Grondo, the master of all...touche. :pinched:

The Ring of Wizardry does work for sorcerors - hence the increase from 6 (double 3) to 8 (double 4).

The sorceror is kind of a power build, who knows fewer spells, but gets to cast them more often. The BG spell system is pretty complex, so a better way to learn it may be to start with a straight mage with no specialist school. You can then learn every spell in the game, cast them all, figure out which ones you like, and on a subsequent run, build a sorceror who knows those spells and can truly kick butt.

That said, you can easily play and finish the game with a sorceror PC on your first go, as long as you have at least one or two companions, and keep trying. Good luck, and happy hunting.
