This is because ME3 uses a different engine than ME2,

No it doesn't.

All three Mass Effect games, regardless of the platform they are on, use the Unreal Engine 3.

After doing some research, you are correct. I suppose the PS3's architecture is unable to cope with the modifications that BioWare made after ME2 released.

For what it's worth, I never experienced any issues in 20+ playthroughs of ME2, and have only had my FPS drop to unplayable levels once in seven playthroughs of ME3's campaign.

Perhaps it just wasn't optimised particularly well? I've heard of memory leaks in the MP and that's bound to cause issues if they're left unfixed. Didn't ME2 use an early version of the engine used in ME3? I would have thought the final version used in ME3 would run as well as the early version used in ME2. I guess that's just down to optimisation again.

I dont understand why would would spend all that money again for the same game though.

Add all the DLC cost too man, you're looking at over $200 to play the same games

I also own the Dragon Age games on 360 and PC.

The PS3 ME3 only has a couple of pieces of DLC bought, From Ashes and Citadel. I only own Pinnacle Station on the 360 (I do learn from my mistakes eventually.)

But yes otherwise I own the rest of the DLC. I enjoy the franchise and like to have options as to where and how I play it.

For me ME1 has the same bugs on PS3 that ME1 on Xbox did. But that's just me.

I gain incredible enjoyment. That for me is priceless.

ME1 save times are awful on PS3. Overload in ME2 is completely glitched and ME2 + ME3 has serious framerate issues.
Go with PC if you can. I've played both versions fully, and pc is more enjoyable. It was nice to play with a controller for once on PS3, but the technical stuff put me off and I didn't enjoy it too much in the end.

Again, no, because you already have it. You gain little or nothing. It would be different if you didnt have the trilogy.

So enjoyment isn't good enough for you?

Why is it so hard for you to believe that I enjoy the trilogy so much that I want the option of enjoying it on the platforms I own?

I've bought digital versions of books I own because I want the option of enjoying several of them when I am away from home. Is that an odd choice to you as well?

That is different. The medium of consumption is essentially different. Saving space? Audiobook/digital. Want the old-school feel, have space, and know you wont be able to charge your e-reader? Bring the book.

This would be more like buying a movie on two different equivalent formats. No, not like movie collectors, cinephiles, and tech geeks who buy a Blu-Ray of a DVD they already have - more like buying the HDDVD and Blu-Ray for every movie (if it still existed) simultaneously, with no added features, commentary, or picture quality.

Using your book analogy, it would be like buying 2 paperback versions because they released two different borders, or 2 digital versions because of different album art.

The benefits are slim to none. You're not enjoying it twice to 3x as much by having 2-3 copies.

Weird because I thought I was enjoying having a greater option of platform to play the trilogy on.

Good job you are around to tell me I was wrong.

Ps. I have the first five Harry Potter films on HD-DVD and own the collection on blu-ray as well.

I mean that's your prerogative, and obviously I'm not trying to be condescending, but in a world where there is so much art to be consumed that you might love, it takes most people some convincing to jump in in the first place. You on the other hand would rather just have every copy available, and the Harry Potter anecdote makes me tend to believe you are more of a hoarder (for lack of a better term) of popular media than actually legitimately believing your core argument: 2 copies makes it twice as good.

It's like the timeless Friends episode where they've just finished Die Hard, one of the guys offers to watch Die Hard 2. The former explains they dont have it, but the latter guy says "But if we watch it twice, it's Die Hard 2". The false equivalency is absurd of course, and comically so, as the punchline works.

Also you haven't really rebutted anything I said in the last post against buying another console copy in my last post, so I feel this may be an exercise in futility, but nevertheless I think I have a fair point and it's worth posting.

In essence: 2 copies does not mean 2x the enjoyment. Is The Prisioner of Azkaban twice as good because you have 2 HD copies?...

I don't believe I said it did double my enjoyment but that I enjoyed the games and liked to have the option of where to play. Why limit myself to where and on what I can play a favourite and gain that enjoyment.

As for console copies I have six copies of Mass Effect. The first one I got with my 360. The second I bought because the first developed a crack at the centre. The third was the Classics Edition so I could have a hard copy of Bring Down the Sky. Number four is the Games on Demand version. I bought the Limited Edition second hand for number five and lastly number six is the PS3 version that came with the trilogy.

Goes up to seven if you include the PC version.

I would agree that somewhat a horder mentality is at play. I'm quite happy to give away things that I don't use or like, but those things I do like I enjoy having options.

Also I don't see why I need to rebutt anything. I gain enjoyment from my games and like having options as to where I play them. I genuinely don't see why you find that offensive and have to try and 'correct' my way of thinking.

I too own all the versions of the games on all the platforms and i think the PC version is the best.

You can import any save in any of them now without worries
