I recently learned that BioWare now offers all the promotional bonus items that previously were only available for certain pre-orders and such to any DA:O owners for free. However, after unlocking them, I seem to be unable to download them. I've tried deleting the mods I had in place (bug fixes only), downloaded the 1.05 patch, etc. My copy is a hard-copy version of DA:O that I got shortly after its release as well as my copy of Awakening, just for context.

I could install manually, but because I've got Windows 8 on my computer, I can't find daupdater.exe to do so. This is frustrating me to no end. Any suggestions short of reinstalling the darn game or something?

Is anybody there? I've recently uninstalled the game and tried to reinstall it, but now the DLC I had that worked before is failing too. I've uninstalled the game again, and now I'm getting increasingly frustrated. I've asked on multiple forums and am getting conflicting answers like Dragon Age's servers are down or that I should manual install everything. What's going on?! I find myself quoting King Arthur from the Camelot musical: IS ANYBODY THERE?! DOES ANYBODY CARE?!

I believe the solution has been posted in Answer HQ.

I've been hovering around there for a couple of days, but none of the solutions seem all that clear, so I have no clue what I'm doing.

You have to manualy download and install them. The updater service has long since stopped actualy downloading any files (That would take money and bandwidth) it will only confirm you have the dlcs now.

On PC at least.

I've been told that's the case. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing though. The instructions tend to be rather vague. The big DLC that I paid for installs okay, though I'm having trouble with Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar and The Stone Prisoner, as those don't have a download link on my registered content page, but rather a "More Info" link that USED to bring up a window with the download link on it, but now just grays out the screen a little. Furthermore, when I click the promo items after downloading them, I get an error message, so I have no clue how to manually install those.

The 'More Info' popups on the registered content page are broken when browsing with Chrome. They work fine in Firefox, though.

Failing that, the necessary DLC installers (including the offer files for the DLC that require them) can be downloaded from this page at  DA Wiki. (Scroll to the bottom.)

And the explanation of why things won't download using the game's Downlable Content screen is here. (EA changed the url/server for the content in July and the location linked to by the game's downloader is dead.)

Ah. That explains quite a bit, as I'm almost an exclusive Chrome user. I'll get the other official DLC now, then. Do I need to also download the stuff that you get in Origins for completing them (Battledress of the Provocateur, Blightblood, etc) separately? And what exactly do I need to do to get this stuff to work properly? The step-by-step instructions I've been finding aren't exactly helpful due to how vague they are.

You know, is there a detailed walkthrough of how to do all this stuff?  The articles linked are helpful, but I find them somewhat confusing, since I'm not a very tech-savvy person.  Plus, there's no indication as to how Windows 8 changes the steps.

Not broken, the script is just blocked. Look at the top right of the address bar for the icon to enable the script.

Okay. I'm still a bit confused by the specifics, however. I'm not sure how best to organize it as a list I can print out to read while I'm doing it to know I'm doing it right.

Step 1: Install Dragon Age: Origins
Step 2: Install Dragon Age: Awakening
Step 3: Apply 1.05.
Step 4: Download the files from the wiki.
Step 5: ?????
Step 6: Profit!

Indeed. Your text pointer to the Origins DLC page at the DA Wiki is infinitely 'more useful' than the link to that exact page provided in my post (that you quoted).

Whatever was I thinking? *slaps forehead*

Step 5: Run the .EXE installers for the DLC that come in that form (with their associated 'offer' components, if any); install the .dazips for the ones that come in that format. The installation order probably isn't critical, though I always install the big, quest-y DLC and other campaign files (RTO, Stone Prisoner, Leliana's Song, etc.) first, and the smaller reward-trinkets-and-additional-gear files second. (And I always use the native /binship/DAUpdater.exe as opposed to a 3rd party installer for the Bioware .dazip files, since everything Bioware is so finicky.)

IIRC, you will need to log in to your profile via the game, once, to authorize the content.

Does this mean that the Darkspawn Chronicles is free? The only DAO DLC I don't have is Darkspawn Chronicles.

Better question would be "why would you want to?":P  But I presume so.  When I log onto my game, under downloadable content, DSC isn't even listed as purchaseable.  And that's the only thing Bioware has released I don't have, so it SHOULD show on the available stuff, if it was still purchaseable.  Nor do I have any plans to do so.

I always say, you don't like something, exercise the ultimate control over it and just don't purchase it/watch it/read it, etc.

Um...how exactly DOES one install .dazips?  That's what I'm having trouble with.

use the DAUpdater.exe that comes in your program files. I believe its located in bin_ship?  Just drop the DAzip on it or use the search engine (though that is slower) to locate the zips you want to install.  Then click it till it's on the line and selected and press "install".  It does the rest.

How do I drop the dazip on the updater? I have both dowloads and the binship thing open at the same time.

The easiest way is to double click on the dazip file. You can also open the DAUpdater and search for the file from there.

Searching works easier for me. If only they'd indicated how simple this was on the other forum, I'd have had this done days ago.

Thanks for all the help, everybody! Soon, soon I shall commence the adventures of Gwyar Mahariel!
