Just a funny little story...

This weekend, a friend of mine came over to play some games and drink some beer (side note: support your local brewers ;) ).  She's been looking to drop some Gamestop credit that's burning a hole in her pocket and she was interested in Mass Effect (trilogy) since I talk about it in such glowing terms.

I booted up the first one so she can see how it begins (stopped after Sovereign launched off of Eden Prime).  Honestly, despite my obscene pile of games sitting in my backlog, waiting to be played, I could seriously abandon them and go right back into these frickin games!  I can't...must resist...but I know deep down that once I make a repectable dent in my pile that I'm getting right back on the Normandy to kick some reaper ****!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't think of any game, let along GAMES, that I can play through over and over and over again and never get tired of it.

^_^

I think I may hit some MP in ME3 in the next few days...you know...to tide me over.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Every now and then I restart a full trilogy run and it's kind of addictive. With the original ending, I probably wouldn't be able to do repeat playthroughs like that, but since that was fixed for me, I can gladly revisit all three of them and do on a regular basis. Admittedly, it was Mass Effect that got me to finally purchase my PS3 in the first place.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Pre-EC I had no interest in playing any of it again. That was the biggest bummer for me. EC changed that and I'm still happy about it.

If she doesn't buy the trilogy, I may get it for her for her birthday or Christmas. Word to your mother!

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I purchased GTA V on release. I felt that I finally had a game to play that's awesome and not Mass Effect. One week has passed and now GTA V is on the shelf and Mass Effect 1 is back in the tray for another trilogy run.

It seems that if I spend to much time away from Mass Effect I'll go cold turkey.

GTA V is a ridiculously awesome game though.

I'm the same, but now I am doing it on a second system (PS3 instead of 360 this go around).

I also just bought Dragon Age Origins (Ultimate edition) and Dragon Age 2 for the PS3 and hope to get into it (though right now, it isn't really hooking me yet).

GTAV has been my momentary distraction from Mass Effect lately. I feel like I've done everything there is to do in Mass Effect for now, so I may finally be able to give it a much deserved rest.

Waiting for the next DA. And I might even give the next COD a shot. And a few other gajmes. But there are only two games that will stay on my drive: ME series and Civ 4/5.

Now replaying Civ I get.. cause new maps, new players = new games. But ME? There's something about the series that always draws me back. Despite running through 4 times now.

I am hoping some other series comes along that will break the ME addiction.

I'm doing my 5th run of tomb raider. After that going to play some Assassins Creed. Gonna pick up Mass Effect again once news about the sequel comes.

I just got the PC versions. When work cools down a bit I'll do a trilogy run and check out the differences between platforms.

yep, Mass Effect is amazing. All 3 games are either great, amazing or the best ever (ME2).

It's easily the best trilogy in video game history and I think, the greatest single player saga ever.

Even ME3 is a great game, despite it's terrible endings and restricted RPG elements, it's still top tier.

I can't quit, even If I try, I'm on my like 16 playthrough of ME2. I cannot quit that game.

I was doing a run through of the trilogy again. Then I remembered it was almost October 12th, which is when Pokemon X/Y come out :P So... I immediately dropped Mass Effect in favor of Pokemon. I'll probably play that for a few weeks, then be right back on it again lol

Other than playing the Citadel DLC when it came out, I haven't touched any ME game in over a year.

Quitting successfully achieved.

ME3 was so bad that I can't ever play the Mass Effect trilogy again. Before ME3 was released, it was my favorite game series.

Yeah, but ulitimately it leads nowhere.  He fires a laser beam at Shepard and then disappears forever.  There's no fun in that.  They torched this series with a flame that will not stop burning.  Only a quality ME3 remake will redeem this series and flush the original ME3 out of existence.

I think ME2 stands on it's own Merits. It's amazing. It surpased ME1 in everyway, and blows ME3 away. It has it's own unique feel unlike, it's very unique. For those reasons alone, I'll play it.

But I understand your perpective and feelings about ME3 and the endings.

I'm currently trying to plough through a backlog of games I haven't played (currently on Skyrim, but I still want Red Dead, then finally GTA V) and in that time I'll be getting the new F1 game soon.

But my send off to the current gen when I get the new console in the new year will be a Halo weekend - Wars to 4 - and a final, personal-canon playthrough of the Mass Effect series. I'm already looking forward to it.

@OP:
I think there are two reasons why Bioware's worlds tend to capture us long-term: characters and themes. Bioware really makes both aspects compelling, and they anchor you in the world like rarely other games manage to do. For the same reason, if characters' (or the protagonists') souls are destroyed and themes used to carry messages I resent, I'll fall out of love with those worlds quite as severely.

Also, before ME3 made short work of both, the MEU was about the only reasonably grounded sci-fi universe in the SP gaming world which also featured significant roleplaying.

I don't think I'll replay the trilogy any time soon. If I think of starting up ME1 these days, I am reminded of those days of innocent exploration (in comparison, that is) and how I felt ME2 gave me the opportunity to see my Shepards grow up, figuratively speaking, but then Bioware took Shepard out of my hands at the end of ME2 and in ME3.

We'll see how things go in DAI. At least the DA team is aware that there's a problem in handling protagonists like the ME3 team did Shepard. They say they aim for more player agency....we'll see. Meanwhile, I play other games, and replay the DA games.

I recently finished SR: The Third and SR IV and now my friends and I are dicking around in Terraria. I think I'm just burned out on ME for now. I plan on doing another run sometime.
