www.gamespot.com//news/jane-jensen-remaking-gabriel-knight-sins-of-the-fathers-6415442

Probably the best news (for me at least)  Jane Jensen has acquired a license for the Gabriel Knight IP and is remaking the original classic for a 2014 release.

The original Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers was released in 93 and was a very mature murder suspense mystery set in New Orleans.  It featured a compelling and smartly written story and characters and featured some top level voice over actors such as Tim Curry, Mark Hamill, and Michael Dorn.  It also features an amazing soundtrack (which is also getting remastered)

Okay, here's what I hope she does.

Rehires all the original VAs she can.

Ditch 3D models and stick to Art.

Try to build the romance between Gabriel and that voodoo chick better, it was kinda rushed and I found I cared little for their relationship. I preferred his and Grace's in 2.

Other than that! Great! This is awesome news.

I hope they do justice to the original game.

From things I have been reading they won't be bringing a lot (if any) of the original cast back due to cost reasons and they can't use the original audio files as they are compressed and would not sound clear in comparison to the remastered music.

I'm not really complaining as the original cast would probably sound quite different which may erk some original fans (I have noticed this when they bring back VA's in other games & cartoons and they sound a tad off)  I do hope they focus more on people you can bring an authentic New Orleans tone rather than names for the cast.

Do you know... voodoo?

LOL This is fantastic news. As a Sierra games junkie, Gabriel Knight was one of the coolest series from my yesteryear... even the clunky 3-D mechanics and silly puzzles of the third game (plastic tape to take cat's black hair to make a mustache disguise - I'm looking right square at you) only sought to dim, not extinguish, the great concepts introduced in that (and the other) games.

Jane Jensen, you have the tip of my hat. If you start up a Kickstarter, I'll donate Day One (just like I did with the Quest for Glory reboot).

They must have read my mind. I only recently played GK 2 for the first time (played GK 1 back in the 90s), and thought "they should make one with modern day tech". GK 1 and 2 have some of the best stories in video game history. IMO, The Walking Dead has revived the market for story driven adventure games.

Another news post on the Escapist

www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128517-Gabriel-Knight-Sins-of-the-Fathers-Remake-Coming-in-2014

This one confirms the issues with the original Voice Actor audio files and that no one would be reprising there roles from the first game. However Jensen states that the game will retain the original 2D core design of the original game and give a boost to the New Orleans flavour and spookiness where possible.

Hmmm. That's a shame about the VA's.

And I'm kind of torn about the fact that the puzzles will remain the same. On one hand, that is cool they are sticking with the core of the story. On another hand... that means I will know exactly how to beat the game on my first try. As fun and amazing as the game is, I do find games where I know exactly what to do a little boring.

Maybe they could throw in some little Easter Eggs, like a revenge way for Gabriel to pay back that mime!

Maybe they can found VAs that sound the same. Look at Troy doing an almost identical Kevin in Arkham Origins.

They have stated there will be some new content for peopole who have played the original but haven't stated what yet.  One thing Jensen is first is a writer and any new content would need to fit into the structure first before getting put into the game.
