They should put the like button IN topics next to posts. That would be cool.

Indeed.

Has there been any updates from the mods about what's going on?

- This is a repost of an earlier comment I made, but will now be my standard thread response to this farce.

If this is what the site has come to, I'm done with it. I've been here 4 years and seen some ripe old sh*t in my time, but if - IF - Bioware has genuinely removed the ability to comment on anything, they are sucking the life out of this place to a ridiculous level.

This now seems to be a "social" website without the actual ability to be social. You are allowed to talk about their games (but on a strict policy driven level) and not much else. You can't message strangers, you can't talk about anything casual or joke with people at all (or you're slapped with the threat of a ban) and you can't even comment on people's actions now.

What in the actual f*ck is that all about?

I have people here that I've been friends with this whole time, and new friends, all of whom I respect greatly and value my time with. That's why I come here. If I can't actually socialise with them here, then I suggest we move somewhere else.

Ever since they removed the ability to PM anyone, I've had worries that things might end up being even worse in the future.

Seems I was right...

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! There is a way around the no comment update the site has faced. And here are the steps:

1. You must have google chrome. This will not work with any other browser, you must have chrome.

2. Copy this code [input type="button" class="button" value="Post" onclick="newsfeedplus_submitcomment('33893976_');"]

Change the square brackets to <.

3. Right click on the post.

4. Scroll down to "Inspect Element".

5. You are looking for the section beginning with "Action_#" right click again and select "Edit as HTML"

6. Scroll to the bottom of the new window and past in the code. Change the number after "Action_#" to correspond with the number that is at the top of the window.

7. This should produce a post button. Press it and your avatar should appear with "Write a comment" and full comment box next to it.

8. Post as many comments as you like.

9001 cookies, points and hugs to Cel for working out this work around. :D

Working go around, I thought I'd re-post here.

I agree with Duck and want to add my own opinion as well.

I think this suppressing of old BioWare fans is bad, of course, but not a complete surprise. Not that I used the like feature, but I hate how the mods always have convenient excuses to hide their behavior. PMs were blocked because of spam?? I never got spam. Anything said against BioWare is seen as an inflammatory comment. In fact, it seems like a lot of people have stopped posting on this site, and that is also not a surprise. It was inevitable it would come to this. Going back to when BioWare first got bought out by the evil empire, very few people saw it as a good thing. In fact, it was probably the WORST thing that could have happened to BioWare. The guys in charge were like, don't worry, nothing is going to change, but sure enough, hindsight has proved that BioWare was no exception. I feel like they too were pressured into profit profit profit, and it shows in the decreasing quality of their content, with DAO as the exception. I think that by trying to repress the negative remarks they are trying to maintain the idea that BioWare games are really good, but the reality is that they are only lying to themselves.

Good info here.

Given how (relatively) simple this work around is, would someone who is more code knowledgeable than I hazard a guess if this was intentional or an oversight? Seems if it can be fixed with a few steps in Chrome that it's simply an update where someone hit the backspace one too many times when editing some language.

This. And as if the  almost complete inability to have casual conversation on this site and the ludicrous avatar system wasn't bad enough.

One cannot really say. I would say it is a version control problem. The user was working on a future artefact and he mistakenly uploaded made changes to the web front instead of the local copy he was working with. Unless you tell me they only have one file that they do the changes on I would be really disappointed as I am 98% sure they use a git repository. Which makes it much easier as they can simply go back to an earlier version of what they were using.

And I disagree with posts like yours. You seem to be taking the fact that the mods are finally doing their jobs - as opposed to caving in, being nice, and letting everyone flout the rules as they please - to be "suppression," when they are simply doing what they're supposed to be doing. Welcome to the new era where the rules ACTUALLY get enforced.

The fact that people here couldn't act like adults eventually led to stricter rules and policies, and for that, they only have themselves to blame. If they're not posting here anymore, then good riddance, because it was getting pretty annoying. Furthermore, posts like yours seem to verge on being hyperbolic twaddle of the sort that I wouldn't miss at all. I'm all for voicing concerns and critcisms if people can do it in a civil manner, and it's a pity that far too many people couldn't manage to do that, instead choosing to hurl all kinds of vitriol, abuse, etc. at others.

As for whatever is going on now, it's probably just some sort of screw-up/bug/maintenance/hacking issue. Is it annoying? Yes. Should BW be explaining what's going on? Yes - the situation has gone on far too long without some sort of information. Could it be some weird new and stricter policy? Maybe, but I imagine we won't know until we finally get some sort of official word. Is it some sort of attack on your civil rights or an attempt to suppress you voicing your pet peeves with BioWare? Nope - especially since no mod seems to have elected to delete your silly ranting.

If it really is that simple, good lord the BSN is even more of an awfully coded piece of crap than I previously thought.

Those is glass houses should not throw stones. *cough*

Anyway, has there been any word about this issue? At all? 24 hours is a long time to go without letting someone know there's a site issue, or letting people know about a new rule.

Feeling Lost? Inability to comment got you down?

Try this handy dandy "comment reinable" script and stick it to the man! ;P

http://userscripts.o...pts/show/179632

Uses greasemonkey on Firefox. Install instructions are provided under the "install" link. Workarounds for multiple browsers provided.

Safe and easy. You can even view the source code for yourself.

Safe commenting my friendswindow.jQ=jQuery.noConflict(true);(function main() {
jQ("textarea.newsfeedplus_comment").show();
})();

It's because I posted the "Critical Mission Failure" shots and unearthed some deep, dark secrets.

PMs were blocked because of spam?? I never got spam.

Edit: I felt the need to add this as a comment.

It's fantastic that you never got the harassment. The issue we had was with the plethora of people that were spamming other people and the copious amounts of complaints about it. Sometimes sheer harassment to the point where people would create new accounts to harass other people.

But, because -you- didn't have to deal with it, clearly it's not an issue? Sorry, that doesn't fly. I'm glad that you didn't have to deal with it. The same way that I'm glad for someone because they don't have to deal with other forms of harassment in their lives either.

Anything said against BioWare is seen as an inflammatory comment.

I actively try to engage the fans that have grievances. There's less need for me to talk with someone that is already happy and on board with some of our decisions. I think you have a narrow definition of what is considered "against BioWare." If people come onto the forums with little else to do but insult myself, my colleagues, or my employer, then yeah you're not going to be welcome here.

Plenty of people to this day still talk about how awful DA2 was as a game.  They continue to post this today.  It's when people start insulting each other (or me) that I toss on the moderator cap.

would someone who is more code knowledgeable than I hazard a guess if this was intentional or an oversight?

It was a bug. I mentioned it to some people this morning and found out it was broken with some other behind the scenes changes with the board software (note, these changes happen all the time. Usually people don't notice it though because ideally the user experience doesn't change).
