 Hi everyone,
I installed Mass Effect 3 and the Extended Cut DLC at the same time on my PC and then started playing through the campaign for the first time.  I have just decided that I would rather see the game's original ending rather than the revised one, so is there any way that I can uninstall the DLC and continue playing my current save file?

I have not yet reached the end of the game with my save files so I would think that I could uninstall the extra ending, but there doesn't seem to be any way of uninstalling or removing the files without the game telling me that I cannot load my save games due to "missing DLC".

If any of you could let me know if and how it is possible to uninstall the Extended Cut DLC that would be much appreciated!

You should be able to.

Download the Gibbed save editor http://svn.gib.me/builds/masseffect3/ and pick a save from before the mission to assault the Cerberus space station just to be safe.

Head to RAW tab and scroll down to section 5. Highlight Dependant DLC and click on the little ... button on the right.

Find the entry for the Extended Cut and Remove it.

Now click on save and either overwrite the old or create a new save, the latter choice being my recommendation just in case.

You should now be able to load the save with the Extended Cut removed.

Thanks so much! I already have the Gibbed save editor so I should be able to make this change pretty quickly. My save file is *spoilers* just before the mission on Thessia with the artifact, so I don't believe I've gotten to the Cerberus space station yet. I'll be sure to update this forum post later tonight if this works just in case anyone else is having the same issue.

Glad to hear it worked for you. Enjoy the game ending as was originally intended. :crying:

Make sure to let us know what you think of them.

Edit: read the OP wrong.

If you want to play whole camaign without the extended cut, just move the two DLC folders to a back-up location.

OP you remind me of that odd religious order that walks around quoting the Bible while flogging themselves. Why would you want that kick in the teeth that is the original ending?

Hey I don't like the endings as they originally shipped but some people do.

If sTk wants to see what they are like then I say more power to him. He may end up loving them, he may end up hating them and come to enjoy the Extended Cut.

After all we have the great option of playing with or without the DLC, why not make use of that.

To see what the fuzz was all about is one of my guesses. Every time I run into a "I played ME3 with all the DLCs, and the ending is fine, you are all entitled crybabies" thread, I just shake my head a little.

That "Please buy more DLCs" sign at the end was a helluva sendoff for a franchise 5 years in the making, it has to be seen. :wizard:

All of the fan backlash over the original ending has made me so curious to see what actually happens that I REALLY want to experience it for myself and see what all the outrage is about!

I'll be sure to let you guys know my thoughts on how everything turns out once I finish, and I'll probably end up writing a review of the game to add to my portfolio and I'll post the link to it here.

Then I'll buy a few of the DLC's and play through those before re-downloading the Extended Cut and see how it compares.

For that, shelve the game. Play through Mass Effect 1 a couple times for 2 years, then watch the Mass Effect 2 Launch Trailer daily for a month. Install Mass Effect 2, play that for 2 years just like ME1, by installing new story DLCs with every full playthrough. Watch Mass Effect 3 Launch Trailer daily for a month, meanwhile do a perfect ME 1-2 playthrough for your first ME3 import.

Then, you will be ready.

Haha well I didn't exactly meet all of your qualifications, but I only started playing the Mass Effect series in 2012. I've played through the first two games one time each to completion along with most of the ME2 DLC and I'm already 30 hours into ME3 so I think I'll just play it through to the end anyway.

I am sorry to disappoint you, but I once deinstalled the EC, because I wanted to see the original ending again. The cinematics were the original ones, but the message at the end did not change for me.

You don't want to do that.

The disappointment lies in it's bare, rushed and lackluster ending. Keep the EC.

Wasn't that changed in one of the patches instead of DLC?

Always interesting with a new person's thoughts and impressions, so looking forward to hearing what you think of the ending (and the game overall, of course). Hopefully you'll like the original endings - or at least the Extended Cut ones :)

[insert thumbs-up emoticon here] B) it makes perfect sense that he'd like to see the original endings, so no reason to clog his thread with posts trying to dissuade him. It's his choice.
