So essentially a triple A developer is using a system the Indie Scene uses to fund it's idea.  This system is built to promote new IP's (apparently) but teams can use existing IP's.

I'm honestly not sure what to think of this.

On one hand it is a chance for players to show they want something different or something unique..... but at the same time it could be abbused to get the ame thing or old IP's into the limelight.

Huh not a bad idea it will allow risker ideas to get greenlighted without having developers to leave experienced teams. it could also allow older once dead IP's (vampire the masquade) to return.

This is but the beginning of game publishers to take a new idea, abuse it, then leave it to the dogs like the whole concept of DLC. Just great..

Square? Seriously?

The company that considered Tomb Raider and Hitman: Absolution to be 'failures' wants in on something as community driven as Kickstarter?

In that case, they'd better start listening more to that community, instead of their ludicrous sales expectations.

In addition, Square Enix said it will use its "experience of bringing games to market" to "help creators understand how much money they will need to raise to make their idea a reality. All projects will be checked by Square Enix to ensure that the scope of the pitch is in line with the developer's ability and ambition" to deliver.

This is coming from the publisher who said Tomb Raider failed, made an iPhone game littered with cash grabs, and has regurgitated the FF series over and over again.

If it were anybody else I wouldn't care much about it, however its Square Enix and they don't have a very good reputation. If they need money to make a game why don't they just use their own? I personally think nobody should give them a cent, they don't need it, and we already have to pay enough for normal games as it is.

I think they're going to abuse this.
