System:

Intel Core 2 Quad, 2.33 Ghz.
4 gigs DDR2 RAM.
ATI RADEON 4800 series (4860 i think. Its a 512 mb model though)

Bassicaly, I had the game installed under Vista on the same computer, and it ran fine. Smooth 40-50 FPS at max settings, though i usualy had the turned a bit lower, I like the higher FPS.

Roll forward a few months, I've swapped to W7, and just now bothered reinstalling ME, figured I would do a quick playthrough before ME2 comes out, and all of a sudden (on the same version, 1.01) My framerate is chugging along at about 10-20 FPS for no apparent reason. I don't "think" it is anything with the system, since DA:O runs just peachy, as well as other games. Any sudgestions where I should start?

W7 is vista RC2, neither are any good for games. the win 7 bench marks i have seen have all been doctored by drivers etc. go for a windows XP. I ran Mass1 on a dual core E6600 stock speed. 4gb ram (1066mhz ) and a gtx275 i had 60fps almost non stop, when i dident it was due to poor programming, (the streaming of textures and a few other things in mass1 will cause frames drop's even if you were doing this on I7 and quad 295GTX SLI set up.) if i do this on w7 i get 40 fps like you. but it makes sense tjek out what is going on behind the UI, all those processes that are fun and cute (like itunes-helper, ipodhelper, digital camera scanner, and so on),will suck the life right out of your otherwise fine-tuned rig. these are programs that run in the background, and dont stop. On my XP machine i use a game profile where i keep a hardware profile that eliminates all unwanted hardware, (dont need the wacom digitizer or the two other monitors, also i make sure processes like print spooler etc are off, i have a maximum of 30 processes running. ) so bottom line make sure these things are not runing, i know vista and w7 are pretty streamlines from the get go, but they are very poorly written OS's but with a nice veneer, keep that in mind. you might have unintentionally installed a lot of bloatware along with w7, or simply not configured it correctly. lastly mass runs a lot better with nvidia cards due the the PhysiX acceleration.

Da:o has been made with w7 inmind, and the drivers compensate for it. mass is getting a bit old, and has no way to compensae for these things.
