Why has Morrigans facial structure changed? [And will other returning characters have different faces)?

Well, this is just MY opinion, and I don't care whether people agree with me, or vehemently disagree with me, but, as a huge Morrigan fan, I offer 2 simple points:

1). The same people that brought you Pie-Eating Contest Winner DA2 Alistar and Meth Addict DA2 Zevran bring you contorted Morrigan; The face is Wrong, the Jawline is Wrong, the nose is sooooo Wrong, the eyes are wrong, and the lips... well, suffice to say, it would seem Batman came to Thedas and dropped Morrigan into a vat of chemicals...

2) I can live with that. While I found DAO Morrigan pretty, my interest in her as a character at this point is more in what she is doing and less in how she looks.

I imagine its largely the artstyle change more than anything. DA2 changed art styles too. Suddenly everyone had these gigantic chins. Oh well. I just hope the character creator will allow the creation of decent looking characters.

I agree with everything you said, up until the last paragraph! I honestly think Varric looks less like him in DA2, and more like that dwarf we meet in Act 3 (i.e. the surviving dwarf servant of Bartrand's, we meet).

I knew he reminded me of someone else! Seeing DAI Varric was almost uncanny, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. He really does, doesn't he?

Character appearances changing usually annoys me, but I think I'm just pedantic about it. I don't think it's anything to do with how attractive they are, so much as things I've already grown used to changing suddenly (maybe years have passed in-universe but the last I saw them they looked how I'm used to them looking, and now suddenly they don't). So there's a period of seeing the character and going "Who's tha- Oh right, it's..." before getting used to them, which is annoying.

I really, reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally doubt Gaider said we will be creating Hawke and the Warden at the beginnning of the game. Links or it didn't happen.

I'm guessing this is what people are referring to:

How good is the face import system from dragon age to dragon age 2 than going into inquisition?

I doubt it's going to be a matter of "importing" any more than you import your world state. Rather, it would be "re-creating"... and even if there is an import of some kind, most likely you'd be free to further tweak (as I can't imagine a circumstance where we could guarantee 100% visual accurancy with an import, considering the new engine).

That's still being investigated, however, so there's nothing I can confirm regarding how either of those things would be done.

I don't know about you guys but I didn't even find her all that attractive in the trailer, and being beautiful is part of what makes her character so mysterious and awesome (in my opinion).

Comments like this make me wonder how many people will still love Morrigan once she's old, grey, and has saggy bits.

Morrigan did not look beautiful in Origins. Nobody did.

Her facial structure has not changed. She just looks older.

I think her facial structure has changed. I am not aware that facial structure changes with age. I am quite old myself and my facial structure nor has  the facial structure of any of my over 40
friends and colleagues changed
just saying ;)

I did a match up with her old face month ago with pics of her in DAO and DAI. The facial structure is the same. Only the nose is bigger. It definent that it's the same facial structure in a new engine.

I thought her nose, chin and mouth were different. At any rate she is still Morrigan. I just prefer not attributing change in appearance to age. a change in artist, a new engine, maybe.... age causes wrinkles and sagging, age spots and crows feet

Nope, her mouth and chin is the same as before. Only her nose is bigger. It's not a case of a different artist but her being aged and her being in a new engine.

Because they went from Eclipse engine to Frostbite engine and directly translating the models is not only impossible but emulating them would make them fall into the Uncanny valley.

Oh wait you looking for Lore reason
um she got older
drank lots of milk for strong bones
stole the Warden's skin

Agree with the OP.
Morrigan definitively doesn't look fine in the trailer.
Anyone who says she does is looking at it through rose colored glasses. Anyone who says she looks better in the trailer than she does in DAO just is letting their misguided loyalties to Bioware affect their judgement, to put it politely.
The "she's 10 years older " isn't viable either.
Supposedly according to the Thedas timeline she was 18 at the time of DAO, making her just 28 at the time of DAI.
If anything in that trailer she looks closer to 38 quite frankly.
I attribute Morrigan's looks in the trailer to bad drawing/bad design.
I'm hoping they'll correct it before the game is released.

Hah.  This amusing "half-truth" you've concocted I'm sure satisfies your viewpoint while simultaneously trying to convince yourself that any opposition to your opinion is chalked up to people being delusional and or sychophantic. But whatever makes you feel better I suppose.

Personally, I don't think she looks spectacular but then again I never thought she looked spectacular.

I'm inclined to say that anyone who says she looked great in Origins was just so used to the awkwardness of the facial animations, they made it out in their head that she looked better than she did, and then put her on a pedestal...to put it politely.

And Gaider has stated that she is not a teenager in Origins: http://social.biowar...4628/5#17190201

That's what is what is happening now.
The DAI fans have put the new look Morrigan on a pedestal.
My opinion .
I disagree with league of one, zatche, and anyone else satisfied with the trailer .
But it's ultimately not worth arguing about,.
It won't determine whether I buy the game.

Weird, to me this picture shows a different nose, mouth and chin, as well as a difference in length of her neck
