Will Varric Be Narrating This Time? At Least Some Of It?

I really enjoy Varric's narrative in DA2. I think it's brilliant as a framing device and brings a really unique perspective to to the game. I am proud to say that I've always played DA2 as Varric - with Hawke being a character that I created, whose story that I (as Varric) am telling.

Will Varric do any of the narrating in DAI? I certainly hope so. It doesn't have to be wholesale like in DA2 - there just needs to be a scene or two were the camera pans off into the (perhaps not so distant) future where Varric is telling the riveting tale of what we (the player) has just accomplished. Again, this would be a great opportunity to offer unique and alternative perspectives (Varric's perspective, rather than the player's).

Maybe at the end of the game, instead of having a voiceless epilogue. Otherwise, no, Varric will not be narrating.

Narration is terrible. The "framed" Narrative, for a video game where you play the protagonist, is terrible.

In my opinion of course.

I really hope they do not bring that back. It was only annoying.

I think the narration had its time. DA2 was an interlude, and so Varric was called in to fill the gaps, now the next story can begin in real-time. But I wouldn't mind him telling stories. I speculated on another thread the warden/Hawke cameo may be Varric doing a, "Previously, on Dragon Age..." around the campfire. Which would be fun.

I already said it. I play as Varric in DA2 and I like it.

Also, the device worked great in Game of the Thrones books, right? So it has to have some good appeal to most people when done right.

I hope not, it would feel tired if they re-used that narrative device.

Varric is a set character. You can't really roleplay him.

I don't play as Varric. I play as the character I created. Except when the game jerks me back from that character.

I've never read the Game of Thrones books. I've read others where it is used, and I felt it was well done.

That's the reason I specified video games. I don't think it works well in a game where you play and become the protagonist--you're simply an observer in a novel.

Varric failed to edit out all the trash mobs and fetch quests for torn trousers in DA2 so I certainly hope not.

Can't blame Varric for that, Cassandra wanted to know everything (even the happy happy sweet love fun time with his/her LI). =]

I hope not. I liked "that voice" from DAO narrating things.

PS: Was that Duncan doing the narrating?

The framed narration of DA2 was good, but having another framed narration again in DAI would make it feel tedious and would probably dtaw up complaints. I hope it doesn't have another narration same as DA2 as there were negatives to having that style of narration.

Game of Thrones? Game of thrones (I love the books) is nothing like DA2. GoT is a real time storyline with more narrators than Romance threads on the BSN.... I might actually like a GoT style storyline with the Inq/Warden/Hawke in a future title but no, Varric's narration should be limited to the prologue and/or Epilouge (like Murdok's voice in DA:O).

No. Just no. (at least I hope so)
I hated it in DA2, and I hope to never see it again in DA.

Not only I felt stuck without really knowing if Varric was honest, but it gave me a feeling like I was less in control over the story.

Yes. And include an annoying broad who interrupts the narration for stupid reasons while we're at it.

I didn't care for it, personally. Then again, there was a lot in DA2 that I didn't care for.

I hope not. A framed narrative like that always brings the problem of players saying "Varric just lied/exaggerated." Being able to claim that something didn't happen at all or not the way presented just weakens the story for me.

I never saw the point of framing devices. I like to imagine I am the character and Varric's narration gets in the way of that.
