Varric can tell the story , framed narrative or not.
To be honest , he's a story teller so I hope he will tell some part of it.
But I really like Duncan voice in DA:O , Varric is just more smooth ...
He just doesn't have the badass voice of doom fit for talking about Blights and death and darkspawn.

I don't play as Varric. I play as the character I created. Except when the game jerks me back from that character.

I've never read the Game of Thrones books. I've read others where it is used, and I felt it was well done.

That's the reason I specified video games. I don't think it works well in a game where you play and become the protagonist--you're simply an observer in a novel.

Well, that's a fair argument.

I approach games such as BioWare games as I do any other works of fiction, such as novels. I don't see any fundamental difference.

The interactive element to me is superficial, because the amount of interactive content (such as choices) is finite and can be exhausted rather easily (for a more than casual player).

no that was horrible.
all the fast forwarding and etc, thought a RPG developer like bioware would know that main core's of succesful rpg's

You assume that BioWare RPGs are like other RPGs. Or at least are intended to be. Perhaps they are not.

I approach them as works of fiction, rather than games where I pretend to be other people. I suspect that is how BioWare wants me to approach them too.

having another framed narration again in DAI would make it feel tedious and would probably dtaw up complaints

What wouldn't? With fanbase like these.

I hope not. A framed narrative like that always brings the problem of players saying "Varric just lied/exaggerated." Being able to claim that something didn't happen at all or not the way presented just weakens the story for me.

For me it makes the story much more interesting as it opens up limitless new possibilities.

Don't underestimate Brian Bloom.

I loved it in DA2 but i don't think it would suit the plot of DA:I.

Indeed. What an intelligent and articulate response to a stupid question and thread. I am truly humbled.

They could stick in a little section like that. Maybe have him talking about something he and Cassandra did together so that Cassandra can call bull[manure] on his account.

Narration is terrible. The "framed" Narrative, for a video game where you play the protagonist, is terrible.

In my opinion of course.

I really hope they do not bring that back. It was only annoying.

It sort of worked. I liked all the details it could have added; "What was embellished? What is a lie? How does he know this?" but knowing that the story is all in the past and no matter what it has happened... it sort of makes you "disconnected" from the plot, since you know you can't change whatever has already happened. I liked it for DA2, but would not want to see it again, since DA2 was basically just a big build-up to the next game.

But to answer the question; NO. Varric will definitely not be narrating DAI, that is not how DAI is played. Its a present-time adventure rather than Varric in the future recounting a tale.

It was alright for a one time thing- but I'd rather not have it for this one. I want it to be a real time-at the moment story, not something told years later.

I thought it worked very well in DA2. Different game and goals I think so it probably doesn't apply here but it succeeded in DA2 for me. As a matter of fact it succeeded so well as I was playing the odd time I was wondering if I was constructing my story or if this was a Varric exaggeration.

You are Varric!

Who doesn't want to be Varric. Seriously.
