I know I'm probably only one on BSN who cares about this, but this news makes me angrier than the Elm St remake. I love original, have the whole series on DVD and watch it all the time, it's classic well acted TV. Turning it into a pseudo sequel with the daughter taking over is bareable to a point but changing the format is wrong on so many levels.

It could work like Castle does or they could go another way and have the lead detective be a flamboyant gay man that no one thinks is tough enough or smart enough who brings in a buff he-man type to be face of agency. That's doing something interesting with original concept of women not being treated equally.

Even casting some petite blonde ala buffy as the lead who no-one thinks capable would still work, but stick to darn concept. It's like turning Friends into an hour long serious drama from the writers of The Wire.

I despair, what's next a reboot of Ironside with guy from LA Law? Oh wait....

Seriously check it out it's great show pre Bond Brosnan and Doris Roberts, plus Stephanie Zimbalist who should be more famous. It's essentially Castle with better lead female, better written and the chemistry between the leads is one of best on TV.

Oh god, I remember watching this along with "Scarecrow and Mrs King".

Dear lord, the vintage ... it's creeping back.

Why would anyone think this a good idea? No one who liked the original show would watch the new one unless it proved to be absolutely stellar, which it won't.

So the target audience has to be clueless young people and there are entire networks that target that demographic.

I think American TV shows would benefit from embracing its shorter and better British counterpart of 13 episodes. In fact, I think 13 episodes is usually the initial order for a new series in the US. For one, a shorter season would make for tighter writing. I'd rather have this than a 30-minute 20+-episode sitcom.

I'm one of those people who when they hear Bruce Willis think Moonlighting rather than Die Hard. But RS is Steele one of my favourite TV shows ever along with B&W episodes of Perry Mason - I'm not that old to remember them first time round though :)

I just wish producers would create some new shows, unless it's by Damon Lindelf then I'm all for using old ideas. Actually any ideas to keep him away from work

Edit:

The idea to cut back episodes and make shorter more focused series would be a good idea. It does get frustrating in the UK with really short seasons, but it allows for better storytelling for a lot of the shows. Broadchurch, Dr Who, Faulty Towers and even Sherlock with it's 3 movie length episodes every year or so are good examples of this.

For procedurals like CSI etc they can get away with longer seasons but imagine stretching out The Walking Dead or True Blood into longer seasons. I love Battlestar Galactica but the filler in season 2 almost derailed entire show.

This makes me angrier than the Beauty & the Beast remake.

Is there nothing they won't ruin? Remington Steele is one of the all time favorites of both me and my wife.
