I thought I had grown out of this, I thought my obsession with Pokémon was over yet for some reason I cant help feel myself drawn to the new X and Y title, I haven't played a Pokémon game since Gold (the original not the remake) yet for some reason I feel the need to play the newest title.

So yeah I am going to get myself a 3DS and get this out of my system however I was wondering if there are any other titles worth while? Of course I have always liked the Zelda games and Rune Factory sounds interesting though I am not sure if there is an English version of it. Just wondering if there are any other titles I should check out?

Other than those already mentioned... I really have liked Zero Escape: Virtues Last Reward. I think it's a sequel but I never played the original part. Basically your trapped & have poison time bombs screwed to your wrist. Someone wants to play a game. And you have to work with & against your fellow captives to escape. Story is pretty good, but the characters can have some ridiculous designs so if weird anime stylism isn't your thing that may be a turn off..

The Kingdom Hearts game was a mixed bag, those Dream Eater things turned out to be very fun, the gameplay & 3DS features were also surprisingly good. Think this is the best handheld game in that series.... But the intro is very weak, & most of the story stinks. At one point the devs seem to be having a laugh at themselves acknowledging the whole xehanort thing is out of control. Everyone is like "whaaaaaat", which is exactly how you feel playing it. Some really great parts were new worlds like Fantasia & Three Mouseketeers.

Another Tensei game would be Devil Survivor Over-clocked. It's a remake & I actually only played the OV.
If you ever tried any of the Digimon games there's a petition to get this game localized. A remake of the Digimon World Game. http://www.change.or...-decode-for-3ds
Be ready for the upcoming Zelda, should be pretty good.

I'm pretty sure Animal Crossing's genre isn't "Random crap".

Seriously though, my 3DS collection is pretty small right now so I have a lot to look forward to. The only thing I have on that list is Kingdom Hearts 3D, Fire Emblem Awakening, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. I didn't know about the Tekken game.

It's a great little machine. I've been ignoring my PC for a long time now. I don't see Pokémon helping either.

Skelter seems to have mentioned every decent game already. I'd particularly recommend:

Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Fire Emblem Awakening
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate

The only games I'd ever need for the 3DS. (Bar Pokemon this weekend)
Enough replay value between those four to last me a few years.

I'll probably get Resident Evil, and perhaps give SMT a go. Those games get a lot of praise, particularly on these forums.

I just bought a 3DS, so I find this thread pretty interesting. I only have Animal Crossing New Leaf so far, but I am looking forward to picking up some new titles. Although I have had to ground myself from it because of exams. After all these years, I am still surprised at how Animal Crossing can be so addicting.

Yeah I know. You meant "crap" as in you just do things, making it hard to classify what exactly the genre of the game is.

Something worth mentioning about Resi Revelations is that redone ports of the game now exist on 360, PS3, Wii U and PC so it isn't really a 3DS exclusive anymore. Still worth getting though if you want a great Resi game to play on the go.

If you can find 999, you really should play it. I liked 999's story a lot more than VLR. Also, it ended. <_<

Yeah, I've actually played demos of both. (360 and 3DS) Can't really say why, but the 3DS one seemed a lot more enjoyable. That, and somehow the graphics seem to look better.

Definitely play 999. Really cheap on Amazon too! Both are incredible games and probably two of the best visual novels I've ever played,

All these are must haves. Sakurai is in charge of Super Smash Bros. and he did a ****ing great job with Kid Icarus.

I'll keep an eye out for it, probably a good chance I'll like it. Maybe I'll wait for one of those quick pick deals they have, I just saved a couple dollars on Pokemon Y with that:devil:.

So no chance of it being released in Australia? Worth ordering from overseas (will I have to deal with pal/ntsc localization crap with the 3DS)? Also is it worth playing the earlier games in the series or should I just jump straight to 4?

Also what is Animal Crossing? I hear people mention it but have no idea what it is.

The 3DS has region locking so you may not be able to import unless you own a 3DS from the region the game is coming from.  However regular DS games do not have region locking so you can import those.

Animal Crossing can be considered a life simulator as you create a virtual version of yourself who is moving to a new town and then make friends with the citizens, run odd jobs, collect items, visit other towns, etc.  There is no real ending and you can play however you see fit.  You can essentially just play for 10 minutes a day doing quick rounds however the game can be quite addicting.

It is being localised for Europe and Australia for spring 2014. I have no idea how it takes them 2 years to get from Japan to Europe.

Too right. Localisations always a pain, but RPGs take a ridiculous amount of time.

Monster hunters pretty much my favourite game series, and by the time everyone else get an expanded verison of the third game (MH Tri Ultimate), Japan gets the fourth title mere months later.

Maddening, especially when they sometimes don't say whether they'll localise or not for months.
