I've killed Kaiden on every playthrough I can remember except for one, and that was just to see the difference between both going down. I have nothing against Kaiden, it's just he's the least interesting character to me out of all the characters. I also find him the least useful in combat, generally once I get Garrus and Wrex I never feel any need to put him in my party again (I still force myself to though). I have no personal reason to choose him over Ashely who I like more and sometimes have romanced. I don't generally play female Shepard, and even when I do I either romance Liara or no romance at all. I'm cool with him, but he has to go.
Who did you sacrifice? (ME1 Spoilers)

Well I usually take Wrex and Tali on my vanguard run... and my next sentinel run will knock out Kaiden....
I have no idea why, I just feel that Ash has more of a backstory, and Kaiden's well... he just seems the older ready to die with honor sorta thing
That, and Liara is usually my LI.... her botics are better, and Tali beats Kaiden in the tech dept too

I did not likelt akiden. And Ash was a soldier, I played an adept, who rolled with Tali so a soldier fit perfectly so we had 3 pure classes. A mutt class would not have fit as well.

Ash most of the time. When discussing who to send with Captain Kirrahe, Ash says that you need L-T for arming the nuke. So I always send Ashley for the assault, which makes sense anyways since she's a soldier not a tech/medic/adept. Then when the geth send reinforcements to the bomb site, I always go back. I don't know how their reactor cores work in the future, but if it's not a mass effect core and it's nuclear, that thing getting hit by a pulse cannon on a geth drop **** would just destroy it before it could detonate. The mission comes first, the higher ranking officer survives, and the galaxy is short a mildly xenophobic, emotionally shut off girl with daddy issues.

I usually save Ashley, not because I dislike Kaiden, but I thought Ashley was a more interesting character if treated right. Also, from a role-playing point of view, besides the feelings between my Shep and Ashley, I couldn't imagine telling her sisters that I left her to die alone.

I don't really save either. I save the Salarians at the AA tower. A badass STG team one of whom is a Captain + A member of your crew beats a lone gunnery chief or lieutenant. First playthrough that happened to be Ashley. My Shep wanted her to get the experience working with aliens we discussed her not having.

First (And so far only time through - I get annoyed at the sheer repetitiveness of the game), I saved Ashley. She may be a lower rank and file grunt, but she's got a family. Kaiden is a miserable monotone sod who is all alone. Boo-hoo for him.
That said, if I can ever be bothered to complete more playthroughs, he'll survive at least once.

I sacrifice Kaidan most of the time. Not because I don't like him. Quite the contrary, I really like the guy. Even more so than I do Ashley. But I feel like he's the altruistic type who would give his life to save others.
Doesn't help knowing how close Ash is to her family.

I saved Ashley. Not only b/c my shep loved her, but also b/c I hated kaiden so strongly.
This...accompanied also by my opinion that Kaiden was pretty worthless. If I wanted a biotic in the squad, I'd wait until after Therum and put Liara in.
In hindsight, Ashey and Liara both are pretty lame LIs in the first game. Ashley was quite as bad as Liara though but that's another thread altogether.
To answer the question in full finally, I left Alenko's sorry tail on Virmire to get incinerate

I left Kaidan behind since I never used him and I found him boring to talk to. Ashley was more interesting though the LI was Liara in the end.

Well I don't have a preference. I typically let the one live that is guarding the Bom. Seems like the best tactical response. In total I do think that I saved Ash more then Kaiden with a 2:1 ratio.
But that is just because of the LI part and I wanted to see what happens and the last times because Iwanted a LI for ME2

Killed Ashley, mainly because I wanted to preserve my Shepards virginity for ME2, although looking back the ensuing drama of telling both her and Liara no might have been a little more interesting....
And I'm desperately hoping that they kick Kaidan up a notch in this game, at least give him some dialogue when you aren't a femshep.

I killed off Ashley. She annoyed the heck out of me. That, and with Kaiden dealing with the bomb, it made more sense in my mind to safeguard that and make sure the mission was a success, rather than risk the mission for the sake of stopping a couple casualties.

I actually tried to have a playthrough that has Kaiden as my FemSheps love interest, but when it came to make the choice I just couldn't not have Kaiden be the one that died.

I left Ashley to die. She just wasn't interesting. I'm trying to play though a second time, if I stop doing other things, but I'd probably leave her on that one too.

Vaporized Ash almost every time.
Kaidan outranks her, has a better story to tell, and isn't so incompetent.
Also: Liara>Ash
