OK, I'm an idiot. What's UI? The only thing that comes to mind is user interface. Is that what you're talking about?
Yes. And you're not an idiot.

Weird how there was no question for DA2 class preference.
I'm pretty sure DA2 is in the "pretend it didn't happen" box along with NWN:OC.

I am unsure of what you're attempting to say here.EntropicAngel wrote...

People tend to be quite honest when it comes to anonymous surveys.
That said, a large amount of the information asked is information BioWare already has. BioWare already knows how many times the average person uses the 'pause' function in the game and during which fights.
I suspect that the survey is interested in knowing how often people think they use the pause function.
The problem with this being of course that the two data sets are not mutually exclusive--or one does not disprove the other (largely because of the utter impossibility of knowing the overlap).
BioWare has the data for 'how many times does the average user pause during DA II.' It could be 500 times, it could be 5000 times. What the survey is trying to find out is if users think they pause 'a lot' or 'a little.'
No, it's not mutually exclusive. It's a completely different question.
BioWare knows the *exact number of times* you paused in DA II, unless you turned off the data reporting. They have this information for millions of users.pause during every single battle in DA ][, at least as a rogue. I would hate to see that reality skewed by a misinterpretation of data as suggested.
They can't misinterpret the reality unless there's a bug in the code.

To be honest, as a console player migrating to PC for later playthroughs, I miss the radial menu a lot. Sure, the interface in general is a lot more free with more features on PC, but I still miss that wonderful piece of ring of shortcuts. Pressing a button, then down and another button to drink a potion is so much easier than remembering to put yet another type of potion on your hotbar from the inventory screen.Magdalena11 wrote...
I truly hope not. I saw in the Off-topic section that you're going from a console to a PC. It would be a shame for you not to experience the intuitive nature of DA on that platform. If you've a couple bucks to spend after you get your new PC, buy DAO and/or DA2 and play it on that. You'll see why the radial menu is a pain.Fast Jimmy wrote...
Ha! They're going to have the radial menu for DA:I on all platforms. I don't have the slightest doubt this will be the case.
Having the radial menu around as a second kind of pause screen would make playing DAO on PC a lot better to me. Though it wasn't as much of a necessity in DA2 due to DA2's general better GUI.

Also... I'm actually a little surprised this survey is coming out now. I would be of the mind that a lot of these things would have already been decided upon a year before release?
Marketing.
I can almost guarantee that whatever points score highly on surveys like this are the bullet points you'll hear the marketing and PR people repeating once the game is closer to launch and they're pushing it full force. Those are probably all things in the game to varying degrees, they're just using surveys like this one to figure out which of those points people view as most important.
So if we all redo the survey but put in we liked that when we pushed a button something awesome happened we can hear it again.

Did the survey. Ranted about Item Pack dlcs for DA2 and why I hated them. Not sure if it'll have any kind of impact, since probably thousands of folks will complete the survey, but I feel a little better now, after a rather crappy day.
Yeah the Item Packs were stupid...I like how items were managed in DA:O better as Character level did not matter as much as the stats.. If you put all stats into STR early on you could wear the better stuff sooner for some characters, like a rogue... Hope they go back to that way of items; it made it easier to form good character builds.
In addition, it would be nice if they don't restrict character classes from using various weapon styles. I enjoyed having my rogue run around with a shield or using a Great Sword when I did my strength base rogue build in DA:O

it appears that for Bioware "responsiveness" means "instant attacking from anywhere on the battlefied without the need to 'waste time' moving into position" I foresee that neither will I like DAI's combat.
I took responsiveness to mean that my character performs moves fast so when i press i key on the keyboard it is fast. So i answered that it was good in DA2.
In TW2 Geralt responsiveness was slow so it was not good for me.

This is one of those surveys where I worry that people click the options they want people to think they play, when in reality their play style is totally different.
People tend to be quite honest when it comes to anonymous surveys.
Only if there's no benefit / impact on them for being honest.
An anonymous survey asking if people could afford to pay more in taxes would be unlikely to reveal the numbers of people who actually could. Respondents tend to have one eye on how research might be used when its something that could affect them, and may tweak their responses accordingly.

I agree. In the fields of psychology and sociology (and statistics gathering in general when predicting human behavior), self-report, multiple choice surveys are often the least accurate captures of people's actual thoughts or actions.Wozearly wrote...

Do you know how Netflix became the industry power house it is today? The founder and lead developer of their original website randomly called people who had first registered on the website the day before, asking them exactly what they liked, what they didn't, what they were able to find easily and what was buried too deep to be useful. And they'd update their website based on that, sometimes the next day.
THAT'S the best way to get feedback. Give someone a system, let them twiddle with it, then have a real person ask them very specific but very open ended questions in a conversational manner.
Now, designing a website is a world of difference between designing a video game UI and gameplay. But the ideas are the same - talk in-depth with someone who has a decent amount of time with a brand new system - enough time to use it and figure out what goes where, but not nearly enough time to "get used to it." That is the most informative, effective and useful feedback you can get. And then do it again with someone else. And again with someone else. And again and again and again and again... until you get a result that nearly everyone you talk to can't think of any complaints on.
And then you go back to the drawing board to think of a way to do something new, exciting and better.
