Playing behind a game controller/keyboard is a crutch. Get out there and fight for real. <_<

Just play with whatever makes the game more fun for you, be it more easy or challenging, and don't worry about e-peen, crutches, scrubbiness and those that label, that gloat and bicker, simply enjoy the entertainment.

:)

I pretty much only use it on the Phoenix Vanguard for accurate through-the-walls Smashy time.

Fun? Entertainment?

What are those? Can you eat them?

Pretty much.  It's a tool like everything else in the game.  Use it or don't - whatever makes you feel best.

If using the scanner is wrong, then I don't want to be right.

not a crutch.

just make sure you can still be effective with kits that you DON'T use it on.

really the ultimate "crutch test" for anything.

Why go out into the open so you can find the enemies when you can hide behind a wall and kill them through it

I have a feeling it might be a bit crutchy. I never used it at first, but now I use it very regularly. Most gear bonuses are useless. The only ones I ever use are armored compartments, responder loadout, grenade capacity, assault loadout, geth scanner and stronghold package. Nearly all of the rest are useless. So geth scanner fits in really nicely in that group. It's extremely useful. Rather than giving you a tiny 15% bonus damage to your weapon or a laughable 30% bonus to your shields, it provides you with invaluable intel on enemy locations so you can plan your movement and attack. It's a great gear bonus.

Yes, it is. Situational awareness > anything in this game.

But then again, who the fudge cares if anything's a crutch? Use what you want, ffs.

It is a crutch on strong classes, but when used with weak classes it can make them very enjoyable to play.

Most likely, but like most of the "crutch weapons/powers/kits" I simply don't care what others may think if I use it on a character.

Meh, hard to say. I really only use it during solos (or when I'm practicing a solo setup, that involves the scanner, in a team setting).

Here is my logic: if the game itself refuses to play fair (lolgoons, on host phantoms, nearly unavoidable atlas rockets, no scope nemesis, stunlock geth, combat drone of doom, phaeston over 9000, nuclear husks, swarms, collector captains, collector troopers, scion grenade spam, praetorian eye, butt, and ear lasers that go through cover, etc) then I don't see the reason why I should play fair either. If it makes my life easier to kill the cheap things- then it's fine in my book (unless you are cheating, modding, glitching, etc.)

Haven't used it in a very long time.  I always feel like I'm cheating lol.

I also have a perhaps irrational fear that I'll start to depend on it and subsequently lose some of my skill.

I did lose situational awareness cuz I used it too much. I banned it and now only use it in the Phoenix and Paladin for spamming power behind walls.

It is perhaps the best gear after Grenade Capacity. This is survivor load out is what I use mostly really.

They're more distracting than you think.

What a silly question. Of course it is, just like everything else in the game.
