Hello everyone. I just recently purchased this game, along with Dragon Age Origins: Awakening and would love some help from a more experienced player. I know this game has been out for years now, but I have just recently installed it and wanted to play it. I am a weird type of person since I have finished the second Dragon Age but not the first. I guess you could say the reason for starting Origins so late was because I was waiting for some mods. I would love some questions answered by a more experienced player to help me with my very first playthrough, so it becomes more enjoyable. Thank you for reading and your time in answering them. Questions are as followed.
Any mods that increase the graphics of this game dramatically? I am familiar with mods, just wondering what is the best one out there since I got one for Dragon Age 2.
What is the best or most easiest class to play through with? A class that doesn't require much tactical play. I am more of a hack n slash type of player. Would love some ideas on builds or guides.
When I visit the game patches section of Dragon Age: Origins on this page, what do I need to download? Do I just download 1.05? Or do I need to download all the beginning ones first. Also I got the Witch Hunt DLC, but what is the Witch Hunt version 1.1? Is that needed?
Anyway thank you for reading again. I really appreciate it. Take care and be kind to one another.
Help a noob out. PLEASE! <3

To start with the last, DAO 1.5 should have all the earlier patches as well. Witch Hunt 1.1 is a good patch. You will want that.
As a hack 'n slasher, you may want to go with a dual wielding warrior. The City elf and the dwarf commoner origins both start with a dual wielder as a warrior. Go with two daggers for lots of damage. You will want a healer as a companion ASAP for a non-tactical play style.
For guides and such, the wiki is your friend.
As for mods, you are in luck. Lady Karrakaz has compiled a mod guide that is simply tremendous.
Have fun!

Indeed.
Although, the easiest class to play through is the mage, hands down. They are overpowered and pretty fool-proof. As long as you sink your points into magic and willpower, then you can pretty much pick the spells you like and you won't gimp your character.
That said, here are a few tips on the other classes.
SWORD AND SHIELD: You're a tank. You soak damage. That's your job. Pump Str until you can get the heaviest armour, then Dex until it matches the Str (Dex adds to your dodge score and means you won't get hit), then pump Str to Dex at 1:2 ratio. Champion is the best spec. You'll be able to take quite a beating, but you won't put out much damage, so many people find it boring. Besides, your first companion is just fine as a tank built like this.
TWO HANDED WARRIOR: Pump Str pretty much exclusively. Each attack you make will be slow, but will hit like a freight train. Takes longer than most classes to get good, but once you're there you hit like the Hulk. Can be a lot of fun. You'll probably be doing a lot of talent spamming because the auto attacks are slow, so drop a few points into willpower too. Berserker is the best spec.
DUAL WIELD - WARRIOR: You're a chainsaw that goes toe-to-toe with enemies from the front. Pump Dex primarily. You'll hit fast and have a great dodge too, so you'll be slicing through trash mobs like a hot knife through butter. A great build for go-it-alone types where you don't mind holding some of the aggro. Berserker again probably the best choice.
DUAL WIELD - ROGUE: You're the knife that stabs people in the back. Opinions vary on how you should balance Dex and Cun, but these are the two you'll want to pump primarily. Whichever it is, you'll specialise in spike damage and built right you have the highest DPS in the game. Think backstabs, backstabs, backstabs. If you're fighting your enemy from the front, you're doing it wrong. Combine with a rogue's ability to sneak into a room invisible, and your first attack can mean you take out a key enemy before the fight's even begun. Works best when there is a tank in the party to hold the enemies' focus. Assassin is the key spec here. And don't forget your poisons, toxins and venoms! On the downside, probably the fiddliest build to get right and the one that needs the most nannying.
ARCHER: Warrior or rogue, this is the weakest build in the game. By quite a bit. Takes a long time to get good, and even then it's not amazing. I mean you will get an archer character who will pull her weight, but it's underwhelming for a PC to play as one. A Dex to Cun 1:2 ratio will do well here. But as a newbie I'd advise you avoid it.
I'll just add that that if you build your companions into these roles then you'll do fine. It's generally obvious what roles they fill. The mages don't necessarily fit assigned roles very easily, but that's okay because you can give them whatever you like. The only other companions to think about are Dog (who get rubbish really quickly, so don't use him for any longer than you need to) and Shale if you bought the Stone Prisoner DLC. With Shale you should just pump Str and Cons until they're both 36, and then pick one - Str if you want another hard-hitter, Cons if you want another tank. Up to you. Shale is amazing at both.
Misc newbie tips:
- Get to grips with the tactics menu. It might seem daunting, but it's totally worth it in the long run.
- Always bring a rogue to unlock all those lovely chests and traps.
- Every mage should have Heal. It'll pay for itself 100 times over.
- Cons is a total waste for everyone except Shale and possibly Dog.
Enjoy.

Are there any mods that adds more quests to the game?

There are "Alley of Murders" and "Hilltop Under Siege," if you want them. They each have issues; Alley Of Murders blocks out Slim Couldry (my favorite NPC in the whole damn game) and Hilltop is just bad. (Not to mention pretty clearly designed to be played with a near max level party.) But they are extra quests.

There is also one called "Return to Korcari Wilds" that's pretty good, meant for a mid-level party and was a lot of fun. Adds 2 new companions to the game as well. Its a bit 'fanficish' as far as character development, and I think the original creators didn't speak English as their primary language, so some of the grammar is a bit 'off'. But I thoroughly enjoyed the basic story/premise and the fights, and ran it without issue.
There was supposed to be more to it, but they must have lost interest. The mod no longer appears to be supported on Nexus.

For mods, I would also recommend Dark Times Act 1. Unfortunately, they seem to have stopped working and the second act, as it has been way too long since they posted any updates on it, but act 1 is definitely worth a play.
