I decided to run Shale through Orazammar instead of Alistair and I maxed out his aura line and am using that with no tank and I'm finding I'm not losing health as fast and not having to micromanage as much as I used to.

Shale - Aura
Me - Dual Wield Rogue
Morrigan - Specced for Healing/CC
Leliana - Archer / Ogrhen (had to use him at the end but it made not so much difference.

I used it for the first time in my latest playthrough, specifically against both High Dragons; Flemeth and the Sacred Ashes one. Worked pretty damn well. The AOE was much larger than I thought it would be and helped my two melee party members (my PC Rogue and Alistair Tank) as well as my Mage (Wynne). The Sacred Ashes dragon was kind of a pain because he kept chasing Wynee no matter what I did but that actually made it a little easier to kill him.

Not sure if I'd use it outside of a major boss fight like those, though. I still have to do the Anvil of the Void (waiting until RtO comes out to do the Deep Roads) but I think I'll give it a try on that as well.

I used it extensively on my first playthrough, and it is quite good, yes. The only downside is that it uses up all of Shale's stamina, so I found one good tactic was to use Quake, Killing Blow, then switch to Stone Aura for the mop up with my party. Good fun was had by all non-hostiles.

I'm  starting to use it more.  I like to hit taunt before activating it or threaten.

Good tips. I think I'll mess with the tactics a little bit and have him do some stuff before he activates and see how that goes.
