That's in real life I think you've confused the two. In a game it can be all rainbows and cupcakes and dreamy ceremonies.KiwiQuiche wrote...
Why is some random 'marriage' so damn important? Isn't being with your LI and acknowledging it good enough? Some Chantry blessing crap and paper work is hardly needed to validate it.
It's the end of the World? Why not get Married?

It might just be a guess, but they don't even seem to have the concept of romantic marriage down; it's all about reproductive contracts, really. I seriously doubt there'd be any point in their minds to allowing gay marriage.KiwiQuiche wrote...

Next thing you know people will request it was like PotC At Worlds End ridiculous wedding between Elizabeth and Will.
To be fair, that was a cool way to get married.
I just found it really lame.
Also, where is it said you can't have gay marriages in Thedas? Curious here.

People are meta-gaming, over thinking the option way too literally, rather than considering the in-game possibilities, stat/inventory boosts, and story progression an *optional* marriage-quest could bring to the table if the right conditions are met.
So, what do those who don't want to engage in virtual marriages get? If Bioware is going to engage in this kind of nonsense, then there should also be stat boosts for swinging singles, etc.

I may try it or I may not.
I doesn't really matter to me anyway, but it's just nice that it'll be available for those who wish to pursue that path and for the ones who doesn't want it doesn't need to see/experience it. Fair enough?
Doesn't have to be grand or take up a lot of work, maybe just a trip to a chapel/temple/something and be done with it like in Skyrim, idk.
I'm more concerned about the cast of characters though.. Their personality, interaction, story arc and so forth..

1. Recruit as many companions as possible;
2. Romance one of them;
3. Get married;
4. Let the world burn, I'm married.

It is optional content expanded upon if it fits the story etc, just as the romance's themselfs are optional, just like recruiting certain companions is optional, just like doing some side quests is optional, if you dont want to participate so be it you dont have to.
How others play there game is of no consequence to me nor should it be to others, if there is optional content in the game i dont fancy i dont do it, i will try it of course but as i said if i dont like it i wont participate in it in future runs etc
Denying ppl the option of a feature if Bioware was willing to do it because i do not like the thought of it is just plain selfish of me so ppl can have what they want aslong as its optional

No there shouldn't. What's the point in forming your own unique gaming experience if everyone gets the same thing? OK, let's allow mages to use shields and warriors to use healing magic. Everyone gets to lock pick chests, make poison, and shape shift too.
Have you played Dragon Age?

So, you're saying those not opting for the marriage path should be penalised, to ensure a "unique" experience?

I didn't opt to marry Alistair in DAO and hence didn't achieve rank of Queen. I didn't opt to destroy all the tomes in DA2 and hence didn't achieve stat boosts. I didn't opt to take Anders into the deep roads and hence my sister died. I didn't opt to save Arl Eamon's son and hence lost a bunch of approval points with Alistair. I didn't opt to romance or even friend Zevran and hence he turned on me and I lost the chance of having an extra rogue in the party. See...in Dragon Age, opting out of things always has consequences. Why would optional marriage be any different? How is having a consequence for opting out of marriage (as well as consequences for opting into marriage) at all a deviation from the structure of this game? Yes, skipping content comes with consequences - or you say "penalize" which makes it sound like you're being victimized, but regardless, I think my point is clear...

Politics, religion, alien invasions and world destroying demons; that's all fine. Marriage? Now that's just weird.
