I wouldn't label a bunch of man-children with inane daddy issues who need Shepard to play Spectre therapist and whom you have no compelling reason to recruit to begin with(despite that being the focus of "story") and a ending that involves a giant baby arnold as "positives".
As opposed to a bland yes man, a walking lexicon, a dork, badass grampa, another guy with no personality and the human centrist?
And again, how is the mini mech-skeleton better than the big mech-skeleton?
Because they don't derail the story with a bunch irrelevant nonsense that has nothing to do with the main reaper plot. The squad was all recruited within an hour and the only one whom you had an actual recruitment mission was Liara and only because she was actually worth recruiting to begin with(the only one whom you can say the same of in ME2 is Mordin).
Giant Baby Arnold's design make zero sense, a core of a ship with three eyes, a beam cannon, arms and needing "genetically diverse" liquid human goo? The last bit is a complete retcon of the Reapers originally being synthethics with contempt for organics as seen in ME1.

Fixed. There's no making hopper Saren look "good".
Okay that I can agree with

Oh, so we don't need tech experts, veterans or biotics? I'd like to see you take on the Collector base with the only "worthy" squadmate Mordin. Or Sovereign with only Liara.
Sure, baby Arnie makes no sense and neither does hopper Saren.

We don't know what is beyond the Omega relay, for all we know it scould have been something where tech and biotics would have been USELESS. We are recruiting people for sometihng we don't even know. That's enterting the Stupid Zone.Necanor wrote...

Hopper Saren does in fact make sense. We know Saren has been fully implanted, we see that Sovie has taken full control of the corpse which is now a machine and what oyu are fighting is in fact Sovie, just in a fightable form. This makes more sense then the T-800.

As much as I love ME2, especially compared to ME3, I have to admit that a lot of it doesn't make any more sense than the nonsense in 3.Seboist wrote...

As for ME1 the implementation doesn't quite work for me although if it was implemented perfectly it would be the best, no question.

Indeed, I loved how going a foot near the lava streams magically killed everyone inside the Mako.

And how would we know that we need them? Shepard has no idea what's on the other side of O4 Relay. Usually in a competently told story(hint: one that isn't like ME2) the protag(s) sees what the problem is and what's needed BEFORE recruiting people. For all he knows there's an armada of Collector ships on the other side.
Besides, it turns out that the Collectors are a complete joke of an enemy who could have been stopped dead in their tracks with a single ship blockading the O4 relay.

I wouldn't say it's magic. For all the other times in the series where the laws of physics goes out to lunch, it's very likely that if you were to drive a tank that close to a stream of lava, that tank may just be your fiery tomb.

That's pretty much it summed up for me. The first couple of times I landed on an alien world in the Mako I loved it, it really worked for giving me a feeling of being out and about in the galaxy, something that the sequels badly lacked. Then it became rather tedious and repetitive, hence my post about a good idea not implemented all that well. If there were the resources available to hand-design every world you landed on, every building in it, it could've been absolutely amazing. Here's hoping for some time in the future...Lathrim wrote...

I'd argue that has more to do with level design than the vehicle. Besides, that's one planet. Also:

Exactly, we don't know what awaits us, so isn't it better to prepare for every possible scenario? What if we really need a tech and never recruited one. Regardless, it's pretty obvious there will be a lot of fighting, so recruiting a bunch of soldiers doesn't seem stupid.Mr.House wrote...

Now enough about the boss battles they're both stupid and neither is any better than the other.
