Forgive me if this has been brought up before but I had a thought.

Now I understand one aspect of an RPG such as dragon age is the loot drop and payments you get for completing quests. However it always struck me as a bit odd that a character saddled with the responsiblity of world preservation essentially has to do it out of his/her own pocket or out of whatever coin they can scrounge up or earn from odd jobs. Now what we've learned from Awakening is that Grey Wardens apparently get a stipend, don't really remember seeing that money though, and it certianly could have been useful for paying of the Dark Wolf, or improving Vigils keep or whatever. Similiar situation with Hawke, supposedly you make a fortune selling stuff from the deep roads but really all you get is a nice new house and whatever you grabbed while in the deeproads, meanwhile act 3 has some nice and expensieve items so basically horde your loot until act 3 if you want somethng nice for you and your team.

Let's be clear I don't think this should be like say Fable, where you can basically buy up the entire kingdom near the end of the game and I do think the loot drops in DA:O were pretty generous. However a few coins for sake immersions and maybe help you buy that one neat overprice item from that one war profiteering merchant (you know there'll be at least one). Say you finish a main quest as you proceed throughout the story and in addition to whatever rewards you get from the people involved and loot grabbed from corpses, whoever was in charge of making you the inquisitor sends a few coins your way to help outfit your soldiers in your fight to maintain some semblence of order. "Good job old sport, here's 10 sovereigns to help fix up your keep."

I can greatly appreciate everyone investing their hopes and faith in my character's success, but could we actually see them invest something a bit more substantial?

Hell maybe even a sandwich once in a while, Inquisitor's gotta eat.

Your thoughts, s'il vous plait.

Oghren gets a stipend from you.

I was talking about on a personal level. You, as the leader of a vast army, shouldn't need to worry if you have enough money to buy a new sword or a few potions before leaving camp.

Ok I agree on this it should be Varics assistant job. But I never bought any item in DA in the first place. I just use what i found or get from quests.Well am not really interested in armor management in the first place, so DA2 companions wearing same armor for me wasn't a problem opposite I liked it.  Just give me best looking armor and weapons and I am happy.

Well you're the leader of the Inquisition , so I doubt there's some official paycheck (maybe you can craft some neat business card though?)

In theory , since you're part of a big organization , you're supposed to find somebody taking care of money issue (you've got an army , they probably have needs too )
And obviously you need to find some nice nobles believing in your project , and willing to give lots of coins.
Or you can just gather everyone in your brand new castle , and let them all starve to death the first years...the demons wouldn't be the biggest problem anymore.

Anyway , I sort of doubt we will have to solve stuff like this , though it could be interesting to have to deal with politics/nobles to fund your army.

Everyone, from noble to peasant, will pay their "taxes" or suffer a demon attack.
