That's the problem with comparing sports that have nothing to do with each other but the name - people try comparison by naming things the one has and the other doesn't.
The truest thing said in this thread, TBH. You know I'm bored.

Yes, Henrik Lundquist is one of the best in the world .. for the longest time (like 20 years) goaltending was the achilles heel of Sweden. Now they are one of the strongest in the world in that category .. although the US has the best goaltending currently ..
Sadly Canada used to rule in that department, but everyone else caught up or passed us
Sweden has had a lot of good goaltenders during the last 15 years or so. Tommy Salo who played for the Islanders, Oilers and Avalance won the Olympic Games with Sweden in 1994 and was also selected to the NHL All-Star game in 2000. We also had the goaltender Stefan Liv who was just so amazing in goal but he passed away like 2 years ago in the plane crash in Russia where the whole team died. I knew him well since my sister used to be together with his brother and we all come from the same hometown, was really hard for my sister when he died
And that's the point, Tommy Salo was Swedens best goalie for a decade, but was never in the top 15 or 20 goaltenders in the world. Now you currently have a goalie who may be the best in the world.
And if you really think he was great, go to you tube and search Tommy Salo vs Belarus for a clip from the 2002 Olympics.
RIP for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl

Ugh, don't remind me about that game against Belarus in 2002, I saw that one live on TV and I felt embarrassed just watching that
But how can a goaltender win the Olympic Games in 1994 and still not be considered the top 15 to 20 in the world?

I played center and ran a 4.9 40 at 305. I could also run a sub 6 minute mile and regularly outlasted the running backs and linebackers during workouts. Don't worry, I had plenty athleticism to play halfback in high school. In high school I was only 255, but wouldn't have had any issue playing at my college football level either.
I always enjoyed big boying little soccer players. I am also an avid cyclist that loves climbing hills
4.9? At 305? With those numbers, you must be between 6'2" and 6'5". Which college did you play at?

NHL players were, for the most part, not there .. so those Olympics (the last to not use NHLers) were minus, roughly, the top 500 players in the world. There would have been 26(?) NHL teams at the time .. ergo roughly 52 NHL goalies. While he would certainly have been better than some of them, there is no way he would have been top 20, having never competed at that level. The only way to reach that level is to garner experience against the best players ..
And I would argue it was the emergence of Peter Forsberg (my fave player ever) at that Olympics, that was the driving force behind that team Sweden's success ...

Forsberg played amazingly well, and to win on penalties against Canada (especially with Forsberg's wonderful penalty) was awesome. Both teams had some good players, I mean, Canada har players like Nedved and Kariya in there so it wasn't a bad team at all. And yeah, you are refering to NHL players now, then why did Salo become a part of the NHL All-Star team in 2000 if he wasn't one of the best goaltenders in the NHL (and the world)?
EDIT: he also won the World Cup in 1998

6'3". Played at a CUSA school. UAB. Most people know us for Roddy White. Played alongside him there.

If soccer takes brain, that might explain how bad my country's team is.
Soccer obviously doesn't take brains. Any one with a brain would figure how to commit adultery WITHOUT their partner finding out. Footballers clearly never figured out this aspect... Then again the majority of sex scandals in football focus on english players... and we haven't won a World Cup since 1966... So maybe there is truth to what your saying...
@Heroic
Surely rugby players are more akin to american football players than football players? So shouldn't physiques be compared between those two sports rather than both footballs which in fact have little to nothing in common... especially given how little you backwards people actually use your feet in your "football".
Also the idea that a 6'2 200+ pound man (I'm sure you've mentioned before that you've dropped off the collegiate football player weight) can produce that amazing laugh makes the whole thing even more awesome...

Roddy White is a good player but his name is a bit deceiving, he is actually black.

Nedved and Kariya were both good young players holding out for new contracts, which is why they were available for team Canada that year. The rest of that team were minor leaguers.
The way all-star selection works in the NHL is every team gets to send at least 1 player. So you do not actually get the absolute best players many years. Tommy Salo played on some horrid teams, and was the best player on a couple of them, hence he received an all-star game invite one year by default.

Ain't happening. There's sort of a pre-selection of players for which people then vote and decide who gets to play at the All-star game.
And there's a difference between being at an all-star game and being the first all-star team.

In all fairness you can't really prevent the offering of a low-class, attention-seeking whore as a birthday present to a player by the rest of the team and then have her circling amongst them from media exposure. If they were smart enough to keep their hookers secret, they'd be politicians.
