I jus finished yet another playthrough, and have been watching the combine battle scenes on Youtube. And something struck me as odd. With the council dead you're being told that the Citadel fleet suffered terrible losses. They make it sound like they were virtually wiped out. But the amount of ships seen defending the citadel doesn't strike me as being this vast interspecies armada.

Especially when later, we see the human fleet, which I recall being just one of five such fleets. Which to me feels much bigger. Even though the humans don't even have six dreadnaughts.

Did the Geth strike elsewhere as well, occupying and killing valuable reinforcements?

And if it really was all the Citadel race could manage, did they leave their homeworlds/ inner colonies undefended?

The Council had fleets around every relay leading to the Terminus as well. As such their casualities could have been a lot larger than it would appear, with the majority of those losses taking place "off-screen". Also we really don't see that much of the Citadel battle in the first place. Their fleet was spread all around the nebula, making it appear smaller.

Consider also that with so many losses the individual fleets of the Council races may still be larger than humanity's, but those fleets are also now spread much thinner.I doubt they left their colonies and homeworlds undefended, on the contrary that is why their power is dwarfed now. The excess ships they had extending their power and influence are gone. In order to keep their vital assets safe they have to pull back a bit.

i thought i read something in the codex that said electrical discharges in the nebula made it almost impossible for most ships to fly around in it safely.

also did the geth/saren attack more than one spot at ounce?

I think it's the Citadel fleet that suffered terrible damages, not the Citadel fleets.

In other words those ships on the standing patrol of the citadel get pretty much wiped out, but the various fleets of the Citadel races are mostly fine and dandy.

And yeah, Udina's massive ego aside, there is no way humanity could possibly be the dominant military presence in the Relay Network. That's just absurd.

I agree with you on the Fleet part. But the Military, since America and the UK and other countries are woking together, I believe one day in the Mass Effect Universe they will be the dominating race. Maybe not in ME 1 or 2 or 3, but possibly a new Mass Effect playing as a different species.

There was a thread in the old forums about this, discussing what ships in the end movie were cruisers, frigates, what weapons were fired, etc. Strictly speaking not a single turian dreadnaught was shown in the battle.

So you're saying that once the Citadel races truly unite, along with anyone else willing to take up arms against the reapers. That's when we'll see the really really big ships, and fleets.

if so i can't wait. I love those kinds of scenes.
