What are you calling inferior? Nobody would wear an uncharismatic bore like DA 2 Templar Armor!

Seriously I think they are both fine.

I love the DA2 design.

I think Dragon Age 2 improved on visuals design just about every way. Except for the Darkspawn. And elves. And Alistair.

Okay, so pretty much just armor. But they did wonders with armor.

While I like the Templar armor better in DA2, they still had overly large pauldrons.

The Templars without those oversized pauldrons look fine though, as seen here:

As for the skirt, replacing it with a tabard would work.

Really?

The differences are absolutely minimal.

These.

Then how does one explain Ser Wesley (or whatever Aveline's husband's name was) in Ferelden? Maybe I missed a detail.

I really don't have a preference. My character would use either look.

In DA2 they changed the templar armour between templar recruits/normal templars and senior templars/Knight-captains. The formers get the armour without the large pauldrons, and the latters the one with the large pauldrons.

Actually prefer the DA2 style. The bucket heads of the first game weren't so great.

The overly large pauldrons is there for a reason. It's an indication of ranks. The ones wearing it are either ranked as a Knight-Lieutenant or a Knight-Captain.

However in DAO

I cannot explain why Cullen was wearing pauldrons when it's evidently clear that he was just a templar back then. It was a probably a mistake on Bioware side.

Heres 2 high ranked templars being backed up by many unranked templars behind them.

After playing DAO for quite some time now I really hope that the Templar armor would go back to it's original design for DA3.

The armor in DA1 looks mencing and serious looking whereas in DA2 I'm unable to take the templars seriously with such colorful armor, and it somewhat looks ridiculous because of the color.

I hope we get back to the original design, with some upgrades.

Yes, I find DA2's armor silly compared to DAO.

Vinho (too lazy to google it in english) works better than the red, the details of the DAO's armor are more complex and the DA2's sword has wings...

I like both but DAII is a lot more practical...somewhat. I think they should leave the "dress" for ceremonies.

Pretty sure all the Templars in Origins had large pauldrons so it's obviously something that's been added in DA2. Maybe the Templar chapter in Kirkwall just does things a little differently? Either way looks good to my mind, but I do quite like large pauldrons. 40k has spoiled me.

They are nearly immune to magic and they can dispell, silence, burning mana...conceptually, no need a shield to against magic because they can make magic not working

... so they just took cover behind their shields for giggles then?
Also no they are not immune to magic, they have a tolerance and can dispell it but if they are caught by a fireball to the face it's still just as deadly, this is why the shields are useful, so that they can take cover whilst the charge a mage down. (in asunder evangeline is almost killed by magic fire several times)

I mean, the whole concept of Templar in DA doesn't need shield, but because they are designed to carry shield, you need to justify why they need shield.

Anti-Mage or Magehunter/Witchhunter class never have a shield in any games because there is no need, they hunt Mages and fighting magic, not fighting an army of warriors

Anti-Mage class are equipped with anti-magic skills to defend against magic, dispell magic and so conceptually no need heavy armor and shield

except they do. look if someone was going to throw fire, or an ice spike, or whatever at me, and i could carry around a slab of metal to stop it hitting me i would.

Also DA is a dfferent to these other games which means the templars are different to the other magehunter classes. In DA templars can be harmed by magic, so they carry equiptment to protect themselves.
(i'll grant you the actual armor itself is probably not needed, but the shield deffinatly is...

also you seemed to ignore my entire point that i made in my last post

Armored dresses are the best kind of armor. So stylish!

On topic, I like both looks, but DAO's wins out in the end due to the detail. The amount of work put into the robe alone makes the armor stand out more than DA2's version of (what is essentially) just a piece of bright red cloth.

It is all just illusion, you believe in it make it real, that is why Templars are trained in Mental Fotress that give high mental resistance, if your character have high mental resistance no magic will work on your character, no matter it is fireball or ice spike, or Storm of the Century...because it is all just illusion driven from the Fade into the world by Mages

At least that is the original idea i believe until it retconed in DA2
