This really has nothing to do with the subject, but I am trying to figure out why you used a # sign instead of an apostrophe. Is it some new internet thing I am too old to understand? Or is that key near the apostrophe key on a keyboard that I am not familiar with? I am genuinely curious.

Well, in the UK we have them next to each other. Near the enter key

Interesting! Thanks very much for the reply. They are on the complete opposite ends of the keyboard for me so I really was not sure.

Zevran's massage seemed to surprise people.
I think reports of Zevran's "ninjamance" with regards to the masssage are similar to how everyone who killed Leliana in DAO also cut off her head: exaggerated for effect on the Internet.
well....some of us just lit her on fire. but any one that talked to zevran too much got the invitation IIRC

I like the fact that in DA2, you get the heart icon if you want to romance someone. Also, the tone of the conversation is revealed; I find this to be very nice.

To be fair, it does kind of come out of no-where. You being nice and understanding to the guy, encouraging him to be a better person and suddenly he wants to see you undressed (among other things). It's one of the reasons why I loved the dialog wheel and the "Flirt" heart (when it wasn't pointless, like with Aveline...) becuase I knew when I was starting a romance or just being kind and supportive. Of course there were still Zevran like hiccups, e.g. Anders.

I actually tried a playthrough of DA II to try and have Anders not go down Romance avenue even once and still be kind and gentle with him without an "heart option" ever coming up. This was some time ago but if I recall correctly you need to choose the Playful option of "We can only do things with a true heart". That way it doesn't trigger his response of "Kind, wise and beautiful" that only leaves either retribute feelings or reject options as an answer on the wheel.
After that moment the chance of him involuntarily starting a romance absolutely vanishes and you can keep choosing Paragon choices forever.

you can't stop people from being attracted to positive qualities in real life no matter your intention so why should a game be any different. i can't tell you how many times someone's interest has 'come out of no where'. that is the exact experience of everyone who does not and never intended to return the feelings of somebody else. at least in DA you can decline and they never bring it up again.
I actually wish more characters did that instead of always being the player having to demonstrate interest first.

Ugh, Mass Effect drove me insane. In ME1 Kaidan and Liara kept swooning over me, even after I had told them we were just friends. In ME2 I didn't even dare to talk to Jacob, because everything female Shepard said to him sounded incredibly flirty and I had no idea whether I would end up in a romance with him.

I actually had absolutely no trouble dealing with Jacob, I just tried avoiding asking relationship/really personal oriented questions. The thing with Mass Effect is that you can't say things like "I talk with you a lot but that doesn't mean I enjoy doing it with everyone" and expect to stay friends with that person. I never really had much trouble keeping friends with my companions. I guess some people are better at reading and catching on what are "flirtatious" quotes rather than others and that is why the devs have decided to put in DA II and now a in DA I an even more refined system to identify what you are about to say? It's called "reading in-between the lines".
I wonder if this difficulty to grasp such a concept is why the writers often put in REALLY blunt lines so players with more straight forward personalities aren't driven crazy?

I agree with MissCurlsbel, it would be great if more characters demonstrated interest in my PC first, like Anders, Zevran or Isabela at some point. Especially Anders.

I know alot of people who outright did not talk to Jacob in ME2 because of that, same with Vega and the forced flirting in ME3.

I just hope they allow you to let down people easily. Best example is Anders in DA2. I liked him as a character until he pulled the odd "IM IN LUV WITH U" thing. That wouldn't be terrible if your only options to reject romantic advances weren't all rude. You can either accept Anders' advances or tell him off. I don't mind companions getting upset that you don't like them that way, but I'd like to at least have a "let down easy" dialogue option, not "OI GET THE F OUTTA MY FACE M8" options.

Yeah because obviously everyone who thought simply saying hello to Jacob wouldn't lead to flirting is a dopefiend who can't grasp such simple concepts and totally fails at reading in between the lines...
