I know it's a bit too late for something like this, especially with the Keep's announcements and all, but if anyone is revisiting the games along with all the DLCs, here:

UPDATE: After a bit of testing from other players(credit to Boisterous Bob), I found out that you can indeed change the class/gender/race of the Orlesian Warden without being forced to stick to the default face/Origin Warden face. All you need to do is to save and load the game once you change class/gender/race and then follow the instructions here to customize the face.

Note: You can also use this method to play as the Orlesian Warden while having a Dark Ritual Origins Warden, therefore having both wardens alive at the same time. For example, you Origins Warden may be ruling Ferelden as Queen while the Orlesian one becomes the Warden-Commander  :D.

Awesome! Thanks, I might do this next time I play awakenings. Too bad Bioware didn't allow for this import, world state, with US Warden, but Orlesian PC.

Funny they include dialogue for anora that you could never encounter without console/mods. Have you played through the rest? There might be some encounters where the people who normally wouldn't appear for an orlesian warden won't have the appropriate dialogue.

Cool discovery.

Good point. I wonder what Loghain has to say to an Orlesian Warden, for example...

I haven't played thourgh the rest of the game yet. Right after I discovered the way to play as the Orlesian, I made the video, but haven't touched that save in a while. I tried it now after seeing your comment, but used console to finish some of the quests but haven't seen him yet.

It is also unclear when he appears. Looks like I'll have to do it the normal way to trigger his cameo. Awakenings is also full of bugs so there's a high chance of failure, not to mention the developers might've set it so he only meets the Hero of Ferelden and not the Orlesian Warden, makes sense there.

I'll check it out, but lots of things that might stop him from ever showing up, so don't hold your breath.

UPDATE: News for you guys. After having to played through the bug ridden bs, I was able to confirm the situation regarding Loghain. He doesn't show up for the Orlesian Warden. It's not really surprising. Since I couldn't get him to visit the Keep, I searched for, and found a console command which allowed me to force spawn him in the keep.

When I talked to him, he treated me as the Hero of Ferelden, gave me some stuff, and left. No dialogue whatsoever for the Orlesian Warden for sure(He spoke to me as if he knew me). This proves that he was never meant to meet with the Orlesian Warden.

As for the rest of the game, you guys can be assured that there will be no problems in playing the game with the workaround. Found no bugs(none apart from the usual), nothing that would block me from playing something, no referrence to Hero of Ferelden whatsoever, meaning anyone who might know you from Origins only talks about your Warden with you, as they should.

Added a bit of a spoiler tag for Awakening beginning in the video, sorry for not doing it sooner guys.

Sucks that us console people can't do this. Shame on Bioware for borking it to begin with. It makes choosing the US kind of lame.

Yeah, it really sucks. But really, people shouldn't even have to go through stuff like this in the first place.

Wow!!! Thanks! This is insightful, too bad about dialogue inconsistencies.

Are you talking about dialogue inconsistencies in Awakening? Because there aren't any. All the dialogue you ever see in the game is based on the gender, race, class and background of your character. So once you change the background to "Grey Warden" in Awakening, you automatically get all the right dialogue in the expansion(which is what I showed in the video). Or are you referring to something else?

This is good to know, but I have a question. You said it removes all the gear you got in Origins when you use the console command, but does it give you the Orlesian Warden starting gear in return or is your inventory just empty (and do you also lose all your DLC items)?

It really grinds my gears that Bioware droppd the ball with this, on my first playthrough I did the Ultimate Sacrifice and yet I had to import and play as my dead Warden in order to import my other choices. It made about as much sense as having characters you killed in Origins show up in DA2.

A generic heavy armour(which is the OW starting set I think) set is added I believe but almost everything you had on you will be gone. It wasn't an issue for me as one can just add those items back using the console. Even if you don't, it's a small price to pay to be able to play through the expansion with all your choices from Origins intact.

My bad, there. I thought you said in the video that there were a few bugs in which people still referred to you as Origins Warden.

Nope, once you do the mod, everyone refers to you as the Grey Warden from Orlais. I played through the expansion with it and had no problems. The only thing problems you'll have are that you won't be able to change the character's face and you will lose all items you had on you from Origins(which makes sense since your Origin Warden dies and loses all items with him/her).

If you want to keep the DLC items however, just disable them before you start Awakening and enable them once you changed the background.

I know you said your appearance will be unchanged, but in the chargen screen, it looked like you had the option of selecting, say, a female dwarven rogue instead of your male human warrior. So, would it be a dwarven woman who looks like a human warrior? Or you can only make an Orlesian Warden who's a class clone of your Ultimate Sacrifice Warden? I'd try it myself, but I don't yet have a completed playthrough on this PC to test with.

And thanks so much for drawing attention to this! This exact situation is why I'm looking forward to DA Keep more than anything, and seeing this workaround makes me so happy! It looks better than any other compromise I've seen before. You rock :)

Honestly? I don't know. That is the one tidbit I forgot to check. It's possible that when you change the gender, the first default face of whatever race/gender combination you choose, will be selected and locked without any way of customization, but that's just my assumption. I wish I could test it out but my computer's PSU stopped working so I can't.

You don't need the complete game save of Origins to test it out, any save would work. Once you import it to Awakening, use the chargen command and see if changing the gender allows you access to all the options in the CC screen or just does what I said earlier. Would appreciate it.

I'd say the results were...mixed at best.

Changing...uh, "her" equipped items really didn't accomplish anything, either; it was always robed, capped, bearded mage.

I set her as a rogue, and she used the proper dual-wielding/archery animations and combat voice, though she was shooting arrows with her mage staff.

Worth the amusement of trying, though, heh.

Oh my! It seems that I have created an abomination at whom even the real ones would cringe to look at. Thanks for confirming though, I guess that's as far as it can go. Also, have you tried saving the game and loading it, to see if that changes it? I remember doing that fixing the robes bug, maybe it will also properly load the right character.

Ugh, I feel like an idiot. I didn't even think of that! And I deleted that character in horror, ha.

I'll try to remember to test it later today, good idea.

Well, it's a slight improvement...

I mean, at least she isn't bald anymore, bahahaha

I'm sure a smarter person than I could try messing about with the save files to make sure all references were consistent (initially, the character folder was titled Daylen1, and I changed it to the new lady's name and switched all references in the .xml file, etc., but I didn't attempt to edit the .das file....yet. Any particular program that's suitable for editing those save files?

One quick Google search later....huzzah!

ej8tit.jpg

Basically followed these instructions to replace the face with a .mor in the override directory. At this point I saved my game and exited, so I didn't exactly test it thoroughly, but I'll hang onto that save so I can use it if need be, or if you've got anything specific you suggest testing.

Thanks for your help! I'm so excited to have my Ultimate Sacrifice Warden AND my Orlesian Warden-Commander in the same universe!!!
