For those of you interested in adding a little bit of oomph to your multiclassed spellcasters, I give you my implementation of the Magic Rating (SRD) rule from Unearthed Arcana.  This system implements a bonus to spellcasting power similar to base attack bonus, though it does not give any additional spells.

In addition, to make it work, I updated mr_bumpkin's old PrC Caster Level scripts with the enhancements to the spell scripts that came after version 1.61 (where his project was abandoned.)

(As an added bonus, the Magic Rating system allows spellcasters to cast spells from staffs at their full caster level, like PnP! (See here for more info.))

These are all override-ready!  Check them out!

Interesting, not something I would consider to use (seem unbalanced to me, spellsword/spellbows are already powerful) but others might find this useable. Maybe you could make a version that works with CP?

I've been using this script myself for over a year now, and I've actually found it not to be too overpowered versus what's already in the game.

 

Ranger 12/Wizard 8.  Level 4 arcane spells, 6 attacks per round, 2 at 16(-2) attack bonus.  Compare Ranger 3/Cleric 17.  Level 9 divine spells, 5 attacks per round, 3 at 20(-2) attack bonus using Divine Power.  In the former, caster level goes from 8->14.  In the latter, 17->18.  Needless to say, the Ranger/Wizard is still sub-optimal, but needed the help.  The Ranger/Cleric is still more powerful.

 

Balance may be a little harder at level 40, but it always is.  Almost no single player content goes to level 40.

I'm a bit confused. You say these are override-ready, but they both require other content. Does the "override-ready" mean they are such for the content added by those other packs, or does it mean we can just drop your downloads into the override folder and Voila!?

For 1.69, you'll need to download the update to mr_bumpkin's caster level scripts, also linked, and drop the override version of it in the override directory.  Download the Magic Rating System version marked "Version for mr_bumpkin's caster level scripts" and follow the readme within.

 

If you're running the newest version of the Community Patch that Shadooow has put together, you'll just need to follow the instructions in the "Version for Community Patch 1.71 - 1.72 beta" and use its readme.

 

There are also .erf versions for builders to import into their modules, but you can ignore that.

OK, I didn't test it, but you're probably right.  I've updated the descriptions to make it more accessable to those who are on 1.71.
