For a very long time I used a 66660 Javelin build on the Geth Engineer.

Until I realized today that the same build is actually much better with the Black Widow. In particular it is more survivable - killing mooks faster gives you better survivability than any wallhack ever could. At least for this no Fitness, no Cyclonic character.

Why? How can a Geth character, built to use a Geth weapon, be better with an alternative Human weapon instead?

In other words, why is the Javelin made so ridiculously heavy for no good reason?

Doesn't the Javelin X have the highest single shot damage rating in the game? As much as I love the BW, it can't one-shot an Atlas on Platinum.

GE with Javelin X can one-shot Gold Phantom with no equipments (I've killed 2 with 1 shot once, good times). That's about the only advantage it has over the Black Widow.

VS. any other enemy the Black Widow outperforms the Javelin, which should not be the case on a GETH Engineer. In particular, Black Widow has much better DPS against groups of mooks, as well slow Armored units such as Brutes and Scions.

If I had to take a guess I'd say it's because like me you're better with the BW than the Javelin, there's too big of a difference in the damage for it to be that the BW is actually better.

I still prefer the Javelin on the SI (since Energy Drain can strip Shields off a Platinum Marauder in one cast), and on my Infiltrator Shepard who has unlimitted Disruptor Ammo VIs.

My GI is built for the Hurricane. Got to use that insane movement speed bonus of Hunter Mode somehow.

Your build has the javelin dealing almost 2x the single shot damage as the BW, so I'm not entirely sure what you mean, the javelin has a slower overall rate of fire, but anything the black widow requires two shots to kill the javelin can kill them with one shot,

Obviously anything the BW can one shot it is superior against, because duh

Quite possibly. But I want to use it on casters as well. Even Hunter Mode cooldown bonus (20%) on top of Ultralight Materials (37%) is not enough. That is just ridiculous.

Those are the enemies that kill the GE most often, because the GE can't hide behind Cloak like Infiltrators do.

And because BioWare made this ridiculous balance change so that most enemies (even mooks) will ignore a Level 6 Flamer Geth Turret completely. :rage:

Possibly because you're better with the black widow than with the javelin. I know I'm a lot more effective with it.

My Geth Engineer, however, gets a collector SMG with incendiary rounds, and just fire-explosions everything.

You can kill three mooks with the BW in the time it takes to kill two with the Javelin. Both are great weapons but the Javelin will always lag slightly behind the BW in dealing with mooks which is where the score is in the game and thus is how superiority is decided.

True for an Engineer who must always deal with whatever enemy that comes at him (mostly mooks).

Infiltrators can Cloak, relocate, and focus on taking out higher priority targets first. Especially on Platinum where there's a shortage of mooks.
