Change the landscape of MP as a whole? Not really. 90% of pugs who have been playing since before balance changes ended won't notice a difference in how spawns work.

It definitely changed the landscape of BSN, however.

You are confusing the meta-game of speed running with the actual game. Speed running is not about play the game as it was intended, or showing "skill" at the game, its about exploiting the game's mechanics all in the name of time. Speed running is about leveraging everything at your disposal to go faster and lower your end time. You see spawn nuking scrubs, I see people beholden to the clock.

Having said that, since most speed runs are driven off exploitation, it is my anticipation that ME4 will likely address / fix many of these issues so they cant be exploited in the future.

And I shall figure out a way to speed run ME4 as well if and only if the troll RNG remains. That was always my main issue and reason I set out to find a strategy that worked.

They made armored compartments, so I would say they could care less about speedrunning. It actually seems that they wanted to promote it.

Microtransactions were responsible for the "DPS race." Introduce new and improved weapons and characters and someone will pay to unlock them faster.

I agree with those.

Speed running with it's high level of teamwork, coordination and cooperation gave this game an extended appeal to me. Still the best shooter style game i've ever played. Bring on ME4!!!

IMO it was not speedrunning but farming, like the whole Glacier/White changes, the addition of lolBombers, drone/decoy nerf (especially on platinum).

And since farming is related to camping, we got the whole lolCollectors faction that was just designed to ignore right hand advantage/soft cover cheese (i.e. lolScions with their sniper grenade launchers).

There is more skill and coordination involved in it than camping. Speedrunning is all about controlling the enemy spawn, and killing it quickly but a lot of coordination goes into that.

As the guy said... Exploitation... Cheats... the lowest scum that should be banned (according to the word on me3mp forums and their attitude towards stuff like that). Image IPB

Which was only really a problem because the people complaining about it were too lazy and/or stupid to click create game instead of find game.

Seriously... it only took a few mouse clicks to fix it.

The amount of whining about THAT, made my view of humanity in general drop even lower *.

* It has currently gone to believing that 89 percent of all humans are morons.

Some other interesting map statistics

- On Platinum difficulty, Firebase Rio is currently played 11% of the time (3rd place overall after Firebase Glacier and Firebase Giant)
- At its height, Firebase White was played 50% of the time on all difficulties, and 70% of the time on Gold and Platinum.

Not everybody has a good connection. Mine sucked at that time and I definitely preferred playing with teammates than doing solos.
Anyway, I played mostly silver at that time, too so it wasn't really an issue for me.

This. And if you didn't get that you got Glacier with people in the old box room smashing and slashing through walls.

Never really speedrunned.
Never liked it.
Never gave a fuck about it timewise or whatever.

I never gave a fuck about gameplay or solo videos either. I have no idea who the youtube-heros are, as I'd rather play the game myself than watch someone else playing it.

So yeah, all that stuff almost everyone apparently likes, admires or adores?

I don't give a fuck.

I've done speedruns. They're ok. I wanna go sub 10 if at all possible, Inconsistent Seas, FatherOfPearl, SerBiggs and I got it down to 16:34 or something.

I don't care about gameplay or solo vids though. I go about halfway through most friend's solo vids before I stop watching 'em. Plus gameplay vids just don't help me improve, so meh. But I do like watching friends play while they're playing because dat banter.

That is something I enjoy as well. Not really because of the gameplay, but because of the lulz.

But naw, speedrunning is not for me. I don't like HAVING to stay on that EXACT spot EVERY time and shoot a missile RIGHT then and another one RIGHT then.
Feels like fucking Baseball or whatever (mind you, I have no idea how Baseball exactly works (I'm freaking European ;)) but it looks incredibly stupid to me).

No, not really mine. I don't enjoy soloing either, I'm just too bad at the game to find it enjoyable. Duoing is kinda okay, but also meh in general.

It's...baseball is actually a kind of good comparison.

Soloing is awful. Duos are ok I guess. But I don't believe that line about you being bad at this game, sorry buddy.

And perhaps the biggest weakness in this game is thetotally prediactable and forceable spawn locations.

I doubt speedrunning was the primary catalyst to balance changes. After all, speedrunners are a small part of the whole player base, particularly a year or more ago when the player base was really active.

I can only speak for myself. I can't say it had any noticeable impact on the game from my perspective. There are many ways to enjoy the game. Depends on what you like to do. I'm always up for speedrunning, but there aren't any more people willing to do that any more, I'm more than happy to settle for regular games.

You would need a crap ton more spawning locations to fix that. Totally random spawning would drop Phantoms and Prime on top of people and the butt hurt would really be epic.
