Well, I sided with Miranda, and for what? a few seconds of sex in the quadrant? Ultimately at the end game, Jack was killed.
Before I move on to ME3 (second -play through), will I need Jack?

How did Jack get killed? It is very easy to keep non-loyal party members alive by leaving them at the final defense and including two of loyal Garrus, Grunt, and/or Zaeed as defenders. Having all three virtually guarantees that everyone in the hold-the-line team lives. Did you use her as the escort? Did you not upgrade the armor?
You do not "need" Jack. She adds color to one mission. You can also have a dance with her at a bar on the Citadel. Plus, if you have the Citadel DLC you have various interactions with her. But a non-romanced Jack is pretty much a bore. On my current playthrough I intentionally got her killed by not doing her loyalty mission and using her as the escort. I dislike Jack in ME2 and the way she greets you in ME3 was the final straw. Jack, you die.
Look up Jack-Grissom Academy on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.

I think that was spot on. It is exactly what Shepard deserves for siding with Cerberus.cap and gown wrote...

Um, I seem to remember Jack being part of that mission too. And if they gave me a renegade interrupt to hit her back I wouldn't mind so much.
It does make much, much more sense for a romanced Jack, though. In that case I think Shepard probably did deserve it. After all, she hits him for a very, very different reason. Its almost as if the designers wanted to include that smack no matter what and so had to invent a reason for a non-romanced Jack to hit him.

All the romances in ME2 are like that. Nothing like the "whoopee" scenes in ME1 or ME3.
And despite my dislike of Jack, I found her romance scene to be the best of the lot. If you can get through all the crap she gives you until you get to the romance then you get a very nice pay off. Very touching. None of the "wild thing" like you might expect. Instead, a true moment of intimacy.

I don't know how she was killed. My team was Legion and Kasumi. Zaeed was the escort. Miranda led the other team. This was the last stage. Personally, I think Miranda set her up. The scuttlebutt aroiund the ship was that I was thinking about "doing" Jackie. Miranda has a jealous side to her. I didn't think she'd go that far. I had better warn Tali and Liara.....

I am still not clear.
Who held up the bubble? Without a loyal Jack, your only safe choice is a loyal Samara, otherwise you will lose one of your bubble team (not the specialist). Who was on your team during the bubble run? I take it Miranda led the other team while Zaeed escorted the crew back to the Normandy.
Who did you take for the final boss fight? Did you leave Garrus and Grunt to hold the door? Were they loyal?

Yes, Samara held up the bubble. If memory serves me correctly, the final boss fight was Grunt and Legion.... I know, I said Kasumi (she went on 98% of my missions/assignments, loved that sneak attack.... "now you see me"
