I'm getting this weird blue screen crash. Everytime I go to a planet on the mako and and begin fighting enemies I crash after fighting them for about 5 secs. I dont know what the problem is, I dont have any corrupt files, reinstalled twice and still it keeps crashing. My first play through of the game had the same problem, but I reinstalled the game and didnt have the problem again. Now on my second play through a reinstall wont even fix this. Everything else in the game runs perfect, just when im in the mako and start shooting and driving around while enemies are nearby I crash in 5 secs. I know I have a powerful enough system, so thats not the problem. Any advice would be helpful. I bought the game through steam and verified the game integrity 3 time.

Did you look to see if you have any errors in control panel?

after my computer reboots it says its recovered from an unexpected error. When I search for solutions nothing happens.

...

Well, then we can look at the multiple causes that could possibly be the source of the problem.

First, do any other games/programs do the same thing?

It should name a particular file name when you crash, e.g. the blue screen will say something along the lines of "example.dll" somewhere near the top, before it turns into complete gibberish. That name is generally a good place to start with BSoDs.

As KBGeller said, do you have any similar problems running other games?

You could also try updating drivers to see if that makes any difference.

All drivers are up to date, and this is the only game I've ever had a problem with...ever. I'm reinstalling the game yet again to see if it will somehow fix itself. If it doesnt work I'll post the error report.

My assumption is that there is nothing wrong with the game, and that there are issues elsewhere. For example, your RAM could be going bad and thus when a game demands the part that is bad, kablooie.

Or some other issue like processor or GPU either overheating, dying, driver issues... etc.

I doubt its the GPU over heating. I can have the computer shut down over night, start the game up, hop in the mako, find and enemy and BAM! computer crashes. I play other games that are just as demanding as this and I have no problems what so ever. I got through the game one time after reinstalling once after having the same problem. I start a new game and here it is once again. Really annoying....game doesnt lag at all....just dies once I find an enemy in the mako .-.

Well, since it is unlikely that it is a corrupt file since reinstalling does not fix, and since it is not a wide scale problem. It would seem that the problem still lies on your computer, not the game.

What anti-virus do you have? Actually, it doesn't matter as im going to ask you to do the same thing anyway.

2 things (both free): 1: go to ccleaner.com and download ccleaner. Run the registry repairer/cleaner portion of it, and when it prompts, make sure to make a backup just in case, and let it fix all the problems it finds (although, ive used it for years and never once had to). I fix BSoD's at work that way.

2: go to malwarebytes.org and download malwarebytes anti-malware. Run a full scan. Clean anything it finds.

I did both of those and no problems really.....but I figured out whats causing the crashes. Every time I fire the machine gun in the mako it crashes within 2 seconds. I tested it by driving around for 2 minutes around enemies and firing the main cannon with no crashes , So for some reason the machine gun causes the crash..... go figure :pinched:

Hi, just to say that I have the exact same problem when I fire the machine gun with the mako... BSOD.

I don't have the problem with the missile launcher. I reinstalled the game twice.

For info, this is the only game crashing my computer with a BSOD. My vista 64 is running since november 2008 and these BSOD are the first one i ever had on this rig.

My rig : p6t deluxe V1, GTX280 i7 965, gskill 9 9 9 21 1600

System is not overclocked.

Crysis can run without any problems during hours, same goes for dawn of war 2...

Check Event Viewer under Admin Tools.  Should give exact details on crash and probably able to search MS website for additional info.  That'll at least narrow down the problem to what component, driver, dll, etc. is causing the crash.

nothing is written in event viewer. Just that the previous computer shutdown was not expected.

Look under Application as well as System logs? Any warnings prior to fatal error?

Does it happen any other time besides the BDTS mission?

Have you installed 2nd patch for ME1?

Does BSOD message list the file or dll, or does it reboot too fast? Check root C: for possible dump log?

Using latest nvidia drivers?

I have the steam version (bought in december). I just installed the first DLC (BDTS).

It happened on Metgos and Tuntau. Same thing, using the machine gun...

I already have the latest Nvidia drivers.

Regarding the BSOD, it's too fast so I can't read a thing. But I know why! I realised that the dump writing was disabled, so i just changed the configuration and next time the games crashes, i may have something to show...

Ok, here is what i found :
with the dump enabled, i manage to read that ha20x22k.sys is at fault. This file is associated with creative drivers. I guess that if I disable audio hardware acceleration, this may solve the problem ... a shame. But I will try again later.

For info, i have the same audio card as the guy in first post (or similar : X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion). I have the latest creative drivers. Same goes for all windows update on my vista 64. In fact, everything is up to date.

Here is the problem found by windows after the reboot :
Problem signature
Problem Event Name:    BlueScreen
OS Version:    6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.1
Locale ID:    1036

Files that help describe the problem
Mini020710-01.dmp
sysdata.xml
Version.txt

View a temporary copy of these files
Warning: If a virus or other security threat caused the problem, opening a copy of the files could harm your computer.

Extra information about the problem
BCCode:    3b
BCP1:    00000000C0000005
BCP2:    FFFFFA6008480FCB
BCP3:    FFFFFA6011730EA0
BCP4:    0000000000000000
OS Version:    6_0_6002
Service Pack:    2_0
Product:    256_1

I have the minidump ready if needed.

Edit : confirmed, disabling Hardware Acceleration for audio worked ... Damn creative, they do really suxxx at drivers...

Audio was always a huge problem for ME1. Hadn't heard of that exact problem, but so long as you're back in business that's all that matters.
