Buy BioWare games for the PC. Problem solved.

Yeah Bioware is a PC Dev mostly. It is their true calling, I mean BG2 on console? lame!  lol. Nah I agree the support for the 360 version with so many reports of corrupted saves is ridiculous :(

The Shale bug probably refers to not being able to talk to it at the end. Shale lacks presence.

Something that has happened quite a few (console) players.

I, too, have -never- heard of a "Shale bug", so I'm assuming it's a single problem he caused himself, most likely an issue with mods or somesuch. And if the game caused memory leaks, we'd -all- have problems.

On-topic, I loved DAO. Simple as that.

Nah, looking around there is a rather rare bug with Shale's dialogue resetting, reportedly (but not confirmed) due to some background DLC shenanigans.  It can be fixed with a console command.

Maybe try googling it.  Big surprise, a thread on being disappointed with the game full of apologists, concerned over what my profile looks like.  Paid shills and know-nothing know it alls.

Well, here is a good one, my profile doesn't look like anything because my copy of the game constantly gets an error connecting to online profile storage, and has since the day I bought it on steam.

And I'm not particularly interested in impressing your nuthugging community either.

I loved the Baldur's Gate series and when it came to next gen consoles (Xbox 360 and PS3) i looked forward to more content after Mass Effect.

i have to say though.... if the support for Mass Effect 2 is anything like the Xbox 360 version of Dragon Age Origins i will never buy it and will only consider DA:O Awakening if they fix the issues with DA:O that we have now.

just thought i should sound off

Confused Ps3 owner here..other then missing player-made mods and all those nasty bugs, what are we missing ?

DLC-Check
Updates-Incomming, check
Exspansion-Check

????

-----------------------------------------------------------------
I think Viglin pretty much summed up about how i feel, except the nasty bug part. I haven't hit a nasty bug on the PS3 as of yet(knock on wood);).

The problem might very well be player expectations and how they might be a big higher then they need to be, especially regarding the PS3 version. I think it's an excellent first attempt on what most would consider the hardest console to develop for this gen.

I can see with the coin paid out for games and those games that come out looking perfect that expectations are they all will come out like that. With too many systems to develop for, never mind the fact that they have to have different development done for each hardware, i have to be impressed with how developers are even managing to develop multi platform games while getting them all out the door at the same time and all the money this is costing them.........

It isn't Bioware that's the disappointment. Far from it. They did their part by giving us a great game on 3 systems, no less.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for the Shale dialogue bug....i had him repeat a secion at one point, but got by it for the time being...i'll have to see what happens later.

Yes, being disappointed in the persistent problems with this game is certainly = being a hillbilly. Do you even understand what an apologist is?  Do you understand that you are currently epitomizing the concept?

Or do you just cop an enormous air of superiority because you put out a couple of garbage mods.

No, apparently what you're interested in is insulting people.  Whatever.  You aren't the first, won't be the last, and you're equally invalid as the rest of them.  Do you even know what the word apologist MEANS?  You seem to be fond of it, so I'd like to know what you mean by the word when you use it.

Anyway, enough about that one.

@Sloth: When I see a lot of people saying "BG" I assume
they're talkign about BG2, because the original Baldur's Gate was good
for it's time, but BG2 was genuinely epic for it's time  To be honest I think a lot of people that remark on how great BG2 was are in fact looking back with rosy-tinted glasses.  Not that it wasn't a fun game (I'm working on a playthrough of it now, in fact) but that it has yet to be topped or equaled.  It was one of the first games I can think of that actually created characters with that level of depth, a story with that kind of epic feel to it.

But, frankly, going BACK to AD&D rules always drives me nuts.  Bloody THAC0.  Blargh.  It's why I heavily modify my game.  And, to be frank, the game is the product of a much simpler time.  People may claim (rightfully so) that great graphics don't make a game, but it's harder to argue with the fact that consumers have come to expect good graphics.  We do.  And graphics are demanding.  Much, much, more demanding (resource wise I'm talking here, not necessarily manpower) than they were when BG2 came out.  The sprawling world of BG2 is something I don't think we'll see again for a long time, until we hit some kind of plateau on the graphics improving and can focus more time on everythign else.

Also, if the open world concept isn't really your cup of tea (like Fallout or Elder Scrolls) and finding random combat encounters isn't all that much fun, than I'm guessing a third of the game's content is going to pass you buy.  Exploring every inch of the areas you roam through, seeing what there is to figh and what might lurk under rocks you turn over, takes up twice as much time as simply powering through the main storyline.

Yeah I think I need to just sit down and play the thing for more than 20 minutes. The opening part of BG2 was driving me nuts, and a certain character that everyone rants and raves about struck me immediately as idiotic. The AD&D ruleset is a bit clumsy, but I know it well enough. I think what really stopped me is that the controls were..dumb. All these stupid symbols and whatnot instead of clearly defining what things did....it just drives me nuts.

I like this thread. Post more wildamishrose.

It's funny how off track this thread has gotten, which I suppose could be attributed to the extreme vagueness of the original post, though it is clear Bioware has done something very wrong, that's the important thing.

Elder Scrolls IV still is the best medieval RPG overall. Much more freedom there. Much more.

Lots of freedom, but the story sucked.  Last time I played that game I was so sick of hearing about mudcrabs that I slew everyone in Chorral.

Thanks...for some reason, reading this made me laugh out loud.  I have to concur with the above view of Oblivion.
