I am having problems finding where it said to change the setting so NWN1 worls on single core instead of dual. Can anyone point out the right topic? I am trying to figure out how to remove some occassional stuttering. Thanks.

That would be here. You have to scroll down to the end of the first post:
Could be graphics card related too, see the above mentioned post.

Vista users: For any performance issue/crashing
1. Find nwnplayer.ini in your main install folder (which should be c:/neverwinter nights/nwn ) and open it with notepad.
2. Find the line "Client CPU Affinity=0" in the "[Game Options]" section.
3. Change the "0" to "1"
4. If
that doesn't work, experiment with different values in the same line. I
have seen lots of different numbers given as advice and one of our
vista computers needed it set to -2, but BW reccommends 1.

Note - Although you can use the ini to set the affinity on a temp basis : you can however use Imagecfg.exe to set the affinity on the nwmain.exe executable permanently to be 1 core.
I use it because I found that the nwnplayer.ini setting wasnt working for me on Windows 7 64bit.
Note: If you have a server, you need to apply it to nwnserver.exe : otherwise it can suffer from rubber banding for the same reason that the game client would.
At least from experience I have had to -
( On a fresh server install - rubber banding, apply the image mask to 1 core affinity, and no rubber banding)

Thanks, that did the trick.

What is the upside of this? People have been telling about this trick for years but I have yet to know whether it would improve my gaming experience and how. My problem is low FPS and choppy/laggy/freezy instants when creatures are spawned or scripts triggered...
Am I benefiting from multicore setting or should I downgrade to one?

The game was made pre-multicore. running on more then one core can cause glitches. It is normally better to just run on one core.

Well yes, that's what i have heard before, but the problem is such is vague... What specific glitches? I have heard anything from random graphic issues to lag and crashes, but no real pointers on what exactly it causes. I was always wondering if the lag and low fps in my NWN were due to this, but I used the app mentioned here to set to a single core and I have seen no difference whatsoever, so I am guessing it wasn't the issue.
Thanks for replying!

How would you run linux nwserver on single?

@Jax - for me - when running multicore on a server, I would be teleporting most of the time to wherever I click .
Eg I start walking but then instantly jump the rest of the way.
Since the server and single player are coded similarly - I'd imagine similar glitching in single player.
I don't think the multicore will cause you low fps. That's primarily your graphics cards domain,
