I am in need of some mage help build please

Somehow i totally forgot the issue of Haste: this is the best boost for melee damage output, period,
it increase both fight & run speed.
The downside is that it is the last of 4 spells in the line, and the 3 previous spells are crap,
another downside is the high mana drain, so no point in having it before you got fade shroud and mana regeneration gear, meaning at lv 16.

Ok I'm going with this build and be using a full party play through, I'll let one of my other mage party member, ill specc her do get Haste and have her use it.

1. Winters grasp, frost weapon
2. Cone of cold
3. Rock armor
4. Spell shield
5. Blizzard
6. Mana drain
7 Arcane warrior specialization/ Combat magic, Blood wound (arcane tome)
8. Mana cleanse
9. Mana clash
10 Spell might
11. Saving for lvl 14 blood mage spells
12. Aura of might
13. Saving for lvl 14 blood mage spells
14. Blood mage specialization/ Blood magic, blood sacrifice, blood wound, shimmering shield
15. Spell wisp
16. Fade shroud
17. Lightning
18. Shock
19. Tempest
20 Chain lightning

I'm pretty sure you get Mana Clash after Spell Might.

Coming late to the discussion, and it's been a couple of years since I did a Mage Solo, but I remember I played as an Elementalist, Earth, Fire, Ice and Electrical, with Mind Blast as a protection and enough to get Mana Clash to take out other Mages, plus the other spells needed to get Storm of the Century.
Earthquake was essential, as it was an instantaneous effect, knocked them down, and allowed time to get SotC up & running... It was the easiest Solo playthru that I've done...
